Enhancing socio-economic rights and reducing vulnerability of migrants in the Middle East and Africa. If you are part of a startup reducing vulnerability of migrants in the Middle East, African and Tunisia, don’t miss out this opportunity!

The Migration Entrepreneurship Prize is a program focused on the identification and technical support to socially-driven businesses on a mission to enhance the economic inclusion of migrants in the Middle East and Africa. Supporting startups that harness the positive benefits of migration and reduce the vulnerability of migrants by improving their livelihoods, contributing to their social and economic rights, and thereby reducing the pressure for irregular dangerous migration routes.

Application Criteria

Middle East & Africa

Startups tackling the positive benefits of migration and reducing the vulnerability of migrants;

Social-driven businesses alleviating the pressure on populations along migration routes;

Entrepreneurs proposing products/services targeting migrants directly.

Tunisia 

Tunisia Migrants living in Tunisia – migrapreneurs who launch a business that targets migrants;

Tunisians who have lived abroad and returned to Tunisia launching their business idea;

Any innovative business having activities in Tunisia or being incorporated in Tunisia that has the potential of positively harnessing the benefits of migration.

FINCAD Women in Finance Scholarship Program 2022/2023

(US$20,000 for graduate-level studies)

FINCAD, the Capital Markets Group of Zafin, remains committed to  supporting talented women in the capital markets through our annual Women in Finance Scholarship opportunity.

The Women in Finance Scholarship encourages and supports talented women in the field of finance, particularly those pursuing careers in financial asset management, market risk management and derivatives finance within the capital markets.

Once a year, an award of US$20,000 is given to one eligible woman to help support graduate-level studies in Finance, with 50% of the award being paid directly to the winner and the remaining 50% being paid to the educational institution to directly assist with tuition.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the 2022 scholarship, you must:

  • Have commenced your post-graduate Finance studies no earlier than January 1, 2022 or no later than February 1, 2023

  • Have less than 10 years of total work experience, and less than 5 years of professional experience in the financial field

John Maddox Prize 2022 for individuals promoting science (£3000 prize)

The John Maddox Prize is a joint initiative of the charity Sense about Science and the leading international scientific journal Nature. The Prize has been awarded annually since 2012 to researchers who have shown great courage and integrity in standing up for science and scientific reasoning against fierce opposition and hostility. Each year there is one or two winners, and an additional prize for an early career researcher.

The prize brings into the spotlight the difficulty faced by many who fight to share the results of research evidence, and inspires and encourages people the world over to do the same. The 2021 John Maddox Prize received 136 nominations from 33 different countries.

The John Maddox Prize:

Job Details

As a recent tax graduate, the overall aim is to ensure that you benefit from a seamless integration into your professional role as a tax practitioner at Deloitte. The TrAX curriculum consists of the following pathways: specialized tax-technical development, professional & leadership development and on-the-job coaching/development through cross functional tax experience across tax service areas.

The programme consists of 24 months of ongoing development. It follows a blended learning approach as well as the performance methodology of Tax & Legal.

Specialised Technical Capabilities

Tax & Legal follows a carefully designed technical curriculum which is Business Unit specific. You will be attending various technical learning sessions throughout the duration of the contract.

Structure of technical learning:

Tax technical boot camps during onboarding in January. Peer-to-peer learning sessions overseen by a manager, scheduled to take place upon completion of each rotation – self paced and individual specific

Ongoing technical sessions – the focus of these sessions is to embed transfer of learning from the boot camp sessions

Online technical development and enrichment – a learning guide will be communicated during onboarding which contains details of courses to be completed

During rotation, you will attend the rotation teams’ technical sessions

On the-job-learning component

Rotation is the informal on-the-job learning component of our TrAX programme, and is critical for the transfer of learning. Professional and Leadership Skills component

Professional and Leadership (P&L) learning pathways are aligned to Global best practice. They are comprised of globally developed, locally delivered learning programs and include a range of course types – from instructor-led (live and virtual), podcasts, book summaries, and recommended readings, to modular and standalone e-learning offerings. You will follow the learning pathway at the junior, new-in-grade level, which contains a mix of Industry, Professional and Leadership learning.

On the-job-learning component

Rotation is the informal on-the-job learning component of our TrAX programme, and is critical for the transfer of learning. You will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in each business unit to obtain the cross-functional skills and practice which are necessary for your tax specialization selection.

  • Graduates who are currently completing a Postgraduate/Honours qualification in Tax and have completed an Accounting/Finance Undergraduate qualification

Job Details

  • Reporting Average clearing (import) and forwarding (export) cost per box
  • Reporting Average clearing time (port to brewery warehouse)
  • Timely processing renewal of all related IB Plc Import & export documentation
  • Responsible to send monthly inbound/export KPI dashboard with end-to-end tracking (from order placement to delivery at the plants).

  • Ensure timely GRN and SCTs of imported materials.
  • Completes monthly stock take of the Imports warehouse.
  • O0U0 warehouse (Malt and other imported materials) Stock reconciliation & SCT movement.
  • Ensure all invoice posting and GRN for services rendered are done in line with company policies (within 48 hours
  • Ensures that processes are standardized via SOP’s and work standards are monitored and improved
  • Track KPI’s on a daily, weekly and monthly basis in line with LCP requirements
  • Ensures that appropriate problem-solving tools are applied for out of range KPI’s in line with LCP methodology.
  • Owns and executes one or more planning LCP blocks as assigned by the planning manager.
  • Publish reports on time as per LCP guidelines and internal processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Logistics or a 3 year Degree in related field such as Cost Accounting, International Trade, Supply Chain Management or Commerce.
  • Preferably 3 – 5 years manufacturing cost accountant, imports clearing and forwarding and or inventory management experience
  • Good verbal and communication skills; must communicate across all levels in the organization with personal gravitas and credibility
  • Good self-management principles
  • Ability to adapt to and implement change effectively
  • Strive for continuous improvement
  • Strong analytic and numerical skills

U.S. Chamber of Commerce Africa Digital Innovation Competition 2022 for African Startups ($25,000 cash prize)

As part of the 2022 Digital Economy Summit, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center (USAfBC) in conjunction with AmChams across Africa, is hosting its annual Digital Innovation Competition for African Startups.

The Digital Innovation Competition will award innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups for developing solutions through digital products and services while creating a positive impact on African citizens. This competition seeks to promote talent in the African region through social impact, digital initiatives that incorporate cutting-edge technologies, innovation, and creativity in the form of proposals that formulate solutions to different problems and opportunities in the region.

The in-kind services may include laptops, annual subscriptions to digital platforms, mentoring and digital marketing/advertising services for the top three winners of the competition. The top three winners will also be offered a virtual platform to engage with mentors and participants during the Digital Economy Summit on December 07, 2022.

The competition will be focusing on three broad thematic areas:

  1. Fintech and Cyber Solutions: covering data flow solutions, cross border digital platform solutions, mobile technology, intellectual property management, cyber security, and digital movement of creative art (movies, music, art).
  2. Sustainability & Supply Chain Solutions: covering smart manufacturing, e-commerce, management of shared economies, improvement to digital supply chain, logistics solutions to e-commerce businesses, and Agriculture technology (AgTech).
  3. Human Development & Social Services Solutions: covering digital health solutions, e-learning platform.

  • Be a startup or innovator with at least 51% African ownership
  • Must be incorporated /registered with the appropriate country-based body, e.g., Nigerian Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)

  • have a company that has been in existence for more than 18 months and is domiciled in one of the five (5) countries covered by the EMERGING Mediterranean Program (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia);
  • Have a project related to one of the themes below-mentionned:
    • E-health
    • Environment
    • Agritech
    • Edtech
    • Mobility
    • Social and Solidarity Economy
  • master the French or English language and agree to express themselves in one of these two languages during the various events planned by the Program;
  • not be an EMERGING Mediterranean Laureate from previous editions.

Awards

Thirty startups will be selected after a call for applications and will participate in a 72h-hybrid-Bootcamp organized from a country of the Southern Shore where intensive training and personalized coaching will be offered.

This package is composed of:

  • A grant of 5000 euros,
  • Personalized technical support through individual mentoring sessions
  • An important visibility push and media support,
    • Integration into the Social & Inclusive Business Camp acceleration program (3 months of pedagogical support by experts in the sector, ending with a Bootcamp in Marseille and a speed-pitching day in front of a panel of investors,
  • Transportation and accommodation for the annual EMERGING Valley Summit in Marseille,
  • Full-pass to the EMERGING Valley Summit where the laureates’ projects will be highlighted

Kaduna Data Science Fellowship Programme 2022

The Data Science Fellowship Programme is part of the Kaduna State’s Data Revolution Plan aimed at strengthening the coordination in the collection and use of data for evidence based decision making. It is a 5-year project aimed at supporting the State in implementing the Data Revolution Plan, with a core objective of developing human capital around data science and the use of data for decision making.

The first cohort of the fellowship successfully trained 30 young people on Data Science and the use of modern tools in decision making. The 6-months programme with a focus on the health sector would have 3-months intensive training in a classroom learning environment and a 3-months paid internship; where participants would have an opportunity to work closely within the Amina J. Mohammed SDGs Data Lab under the Kaduna State Bureau of Statistics.

Requirements.

  • Age: 18yrs – 35yrs except for exceptional cases
  • Location: The State of residence must be in Kaduna
  • Academic Qualifications: Graduate of Tertiary Institutions in any of the STEMS courses particularly: Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Physical Sciences, and any other health related discipline. Undergraduates within the STEM fields identified who are doing their 6months to 1 year Internships are also encouraged to apply.
  • Competency Level: We are looking for people with the following skills:
    1. Basic Computer Knowledge
    2. Basic Knowledge around using Data & Understanding of Microsoft Excel
    3. Problem Solving Skills
    4. Communication Skills(Written and Verbal English)
  • Gender: 50% gender balancing and distribution will be considered during selection process.

The training will take place in Kaduna State.

Waislitz Global Citizen Award 2022 for ending extreme poverty ($USD 250,000 cash prize)

The Waislitz Global Citizen Awards are annual cash prizes totaling $200,000 that recognize the excellence of individuals in their work to end extreme poverty. The grand prize is $100,000 with two additional prizes at $50,000 each, for a total of three prizes. “Ending extreme poverty is not a choice, it’s an obligation.   • GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP: How does the applicant embody and exemplify the values and practices of a Global Citizen?
  • PROOF OF CONCEPT: Does the applicant have a strong proof of concept with at least 1-2 years of impact towards ending extreme poverty?
  • DISRUPTION: Has the applicant created measurable impact in an innovative manner that disrupts the systems that allow for extreme poverty to exist?
  • SCALABILITY: How would this award enable/support the applicant to scale or improve their work?
  • ADAPTABILITY: Can the applicant demonstrate examples of their ability to adapt and evolve to changing conditions?

The grand prize Waislitz Global Citizen Award will be awarded to an applicant based on the 5 criteria listed above.

The Waislitz Global Citizen Disruptor Award will be awarded to an individual who excels in the “Disruption” criteria.

The Waislitz Global Citizens’ Choice Award will be selected with input from public online voting by the Global Citizen community.

World Summit Award (WSA) Young Innovators Award 2022 for young Digital Entrepreneurs.

WSA selects and promotes local digital innovation improving society. It is a non-monetary award system with a focus on sustainable knowledge transfer through a worldwide network. Winners benefit not from a one-time financial reward, but a lifelong partnership and integration. WSA is a nomination based award system, eligible for all UN member states.

Each country has a national WSA representation – the WSA National Expert. The WSA national experts are carrying out the local pre-selection for WSA, through national contests or national Expert panel selection. To participate in WSA, you need to be nominated by a WSA National Expert as the best national digital application in one of the 8 categories. Each country is eligible to nominate one project/solution per WSA category.

Please note that a country’s local deadline for application may vary from the WSA Global deadline.

Requirements

WSA looks for digital applications that have a strong impact on society in one of the 8 WSA categories. WSA focuses on content depth, strategic value and local impact of a product.

By submission of a project, producers accept the rules of the WSA contests as stated on the WSA RULES & CONDITIONS page.

All submitters to WSA have to abide by the rules and regulations mentioned in the UN Declaration on Human Rights. Submissions which encourage war, the exercise of violence, fraud, racism or discrimination will therefore not be accepted and eliminated. Similarly, submissions that violate international copyright provisions will be excluded.

Combining an ongoing series of international events and activities with a global network of start-ups, social entrepreneurs, mentors, jurors, speakers, experts, government leaders, academia and civil society, WSA is an international platform for cutting edge examples on how ICTs can have an impact on society.

Founded in 2003, WSA has become a quality seal for digital content with societal impact in over 182 participating countries.

How to Apply

1 Write a mail to the WSA office to be introduced to your WSA National Expert. Your National Expert will guide you through the local steps needed to apply for WSA.

Some countries also offer application through a national contest or other forms of application.

2 Your project will be reviewed and evaluated by the WSA National Expert if it meets the eligibility criteria and standards of WSA. After careful evaluation, the WSA National Expert will decide if they wish to nominate your project for WSA, based on innovation, local impact and quality.

If your project is nominated in one of the WSA categories, your WSA National Expert will enter your data in the WSA Contest Database. Please make sure to provide your WSA National Expert with valid contact data.

3 Upon nomination, you will receive a confirmation email inviting you to complete your application. Please make sure to check your spam folder.

After submitting your application, you are officially in the global WSA.

A specially assembled international Jury will then evaluate all nominated and completed projects and choose the 40 WSA winners of the year.
