Through its dynamic ecosystem, the Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition (EBPC) celebrates purpose-driven ventures that address persistent and emerging problems in education. The EBPC is open to applicants worldwide who are committed to tackling systemic barriers in education through innovation and to advancing equitable opportunities for all learners and communities.

Requirements

  • Anyone who is under 18 years old;
  • Any Competition judge;
  • Anyone who previously was named a Finalist or Winner of a prize in this Competition. (However, if a previous winner wants to enter a new educational entrepreneurship business plan, which the University determines, in its sole opinion and determination, is unrelated to the previous winning educational entrepreneurship business plan, then the previous winning Applicant may do so, subject to their or its compliance with all of the other eligibility requirements.);
  • Anyone for whom it would be illegal to enter this Competition in their legal jurisdiction of residence;
  • Any Penn Graduate School of Education faculty, lecturer, administrator, staff, or other employee. (Note: Faculty, lecturers, administrators, staff, employees, and students from the University of Pennsylvania and its schools, centers and institutes, other than the Graduate School of Education, may enter the Competition, provided that they have first disclosed their product or service or technology or concept or intellectual property to the University’s Penn Center for Innovation or its successor (“Penn PCI”), using the disclosure form required by Penn PCI, in order for Penn PCI to determine whether the University has an ownership interest in such product or service or technology or concept or intellectual property by virtue of its intellectual property and employment policies.

Climate Launchpad green business ideas competition 2022 for young Entrepreneurs ( € 17,000+)

To enter the competition submit your idea or innovation with environmental impact. ClimateLaunchpad will help you fast track that idea into a business and bypass all possible pitfalls along the way. You’ll learn how to get your idea funded and launched.

Once you are selected to join ClimateLaunchpad, the Boot Camp and coaching sessions will help you develop your idea to a rock-solid plan. You will pitch this during your National Final and the Regional Finals. The winners of each Regional Final will go on to compete in the Global Grand Final.
Even if your idea is on the back of a napkin, you’re most welcome to join.

All entries will be reviewed and ideas that fit the bill of our competition get invited to join.

Requirements

  • Anyone with a promising cleantech idea who dreams of becoming an entrepreneur should join.
  • You can be a new start-up, SME, researcher, student, public organisation, consultant, engineer, a combination of the above or something that doesn’t fit a job title.
  • Don’t worry if you don’t have a business plan quite ready
  • You have not yet started a business or your company has been incorporated for less than a year (definition: your legal entity does not exist for more than 1 year);

Prize

  • The top 16 teams selected by the jury in the semi-finals to perform in the Final Round of the Global Grand Final, will automatically get direct access to the ClimateLaunchpad Accelerator.

The programme

Step 1: Boot Camp
The top teams chosen by our National leads* take part in the ClimateLaunchpad National programme which kicks off with a multi-day digital Boot Camp. Our trainers will teach you all you need to know about jump-starting your business.

Step 2: Intensive coaching and National Finals
The Boot Camp is followed by a period of intensive coaching. You’ll perfect your pitch, value proposition and business model. After that, you’re ready to rock your National Final where you’ll pitch digitally for a National Jury.

Step 3: Regional Finals
The top teams of each country go to the Regional Finals where they pitch in front of the region’s best and brightest. The crème de la crème are chosen to compete in the digital Global Grand Final.

Step 4: Global Grand Final
The best teams in the world pitch against each other on the international stage. The overall winner of the Global Grand Final receives € 10,000, the runner up gets € 5,000 and the idea that comes in third place wins  € 2,500.

The top 16 teams selected by the jury in the semi-finals to perform in the final round of the Global Grand Final, will automatically get direct access to the Climate-KIC ClimateLaunchpad Accelerator.

On top of that, the  7 Theme winners  of the semi-finals (Top 1 of each theme) will win access to the Climate Marketplace Dealstream.

Job Description

  • Supervises the physical work forces in construction installations.
  • Assists the Construction Manager in job planning and work scheduling; coordinates the activities of Craft Supervisors and Foremen to ensure effective operations and productivity.

The Orange Social Venture Prize 2022 in Africa and the Middle East ( €70,000 Euro Prize)

Orange rewards the positive entrepreneurial spirit of dynamic start-ups within the framework of its Social Venture Prize. Since 2011 this International Grand Prix competition has welcomed start-ups from 17 countries in Africa and the Middle East. It identifies, rewards, and supports business propositions that make a positive social and environmental impact. To encourage sustainable, responsible, and inclusive development, the International Women’s Prize was introduced in 2020, promoting business ventures led by women entrepreneurs or with the primary purpose of improving women’s lives.

Eligibility Requirements:

Candidates must:

Be 21 years and over

  • Present a social entrepreneurship project based on NICT (New Information and Communication Technologies)
  • The candidates must present a project that involves at least one of the 17 countries

Ideally, the business idea should include a prototype or demo.

Phases of the competition

  • The first phase will take place between June and September: each application will be assessed according to the rules of the national competitions and up to three winners will be selected in each country. The international phase will then begin. An evaluation committee of Orange employees will preselect 10 finalists from the national winners.
  • In October, these finalists will be evaluated by a grand jury of influential representatives from the African tech world, who will choose the three overall winners of the International Grand Prix.
  • This jury will also be responsible for choosing the winner of the International Women’s Prize, from five finalists selected by an evaluation committee made up of Orange’s diversity and inclusion teams.

Prizes

Awards International Grand Prix

  • 1st prize: €25,000
  • 2nd prize: €15,000
  • 3rd prize: €10,000

The 10 finalists within the OSVP International Grand Prix and the winner of the International Women’s Prize will also receive 6 to 9 months of business development support.

Jamlab Accelerator sub-Saharan Africa Programme 2022

The Jamlab Accelerator Programme (JAP) is a six-month hothouse programme for early-stage journalism and media start-ups. It provides teams with the tools, facilities, contacts, and support necessary to realise their ideas and ambitions. The programme focuses on journalism and media innovations with the potential to transform information, conversation and public space.

Requirements:

  • JAP is looking for committed and creative journalists and media makers who are passionate about fixing what isn’t working in sub-Saharan African media, who want to create new media to serve new audiences, or bring new conversations or ideas to the public.
  • Innovators, media makers and entrepreneurs with a great idea and the commitment to create and sustain a new journalism or media venture. Innovators, media makers and entrepreneurs  who lead an existing journalism or media venture that they want to grow and develop.

Starting or growing a new venture is challenging work so we encourage people to apply as a team of at least two people who are able to commit all or a substantial majority of their time to their project. Larger teams are also welcomed.

This programme will be based on a significant amount of “virtual face-to-face” interaction so applicants must have a stable internet connection.

SMALL SCALE ENTERPRISES (SSE)

The Small Scale Enterprises [SSE] programme is one of the four core programmes of the NDE designed to inculcate in the unemployed Nigerian graduates and other interested persons, the spirit, creativity and self-reliance with a view to assisting them set up their own businesses in order to create employment for themselves and other Nigerians.

NDE-ENTERPRISE AND FINANCE COUNSELING CLINIC [NDE-EFCC]:

This initiative is targeted at unemployed graduates of higher institutions who are exposed to a unique mode of business training.
Beneficiaries are exposed to the experiences of successful NDE loans beneficiaries:

  • Undergo counseling from NDE Counseling Officers
  • Interact with Financial Institutions
  • In addition, taught business Management Skills to enable them write bankable feasibility reports. Beneficiaries are thereafter linked to possible sources of finance to establish their chosen businesses [duration of training 8 days]

GRADUATE ENTERPRISE ATTACHMENT SCHEME [GEAS]:

The graduate Enterprise Attachment Scheme [GEAS] is designed to provide temporary employment opportunities for unemployed graduates of tertiary institutions. Under the scheme the scheme, participants are exposed to entrepreneurial skills while work cultures and attitudes are inculcated into them, which would enhance their employability. For those that are interested in self-employment, it would give them the opportunity to acquire on-the-job training and increase their chances of success in their own businesses. The period of attachment is for six months.

PREPARATION PROCESSING AND PACKAGING TRAINING SCHEME [PPPTS]:

The Preparation Processing and Packaging Training Scheme [PPPTS] Is a scheme targeted at the unemployed, which includes graduates, non-graduates and women and is designed to train them on how to prepare, Process and package agricultural; and non-agricultural products in line with international best practices. The duration of the training is 3 weeks, two weeks practical attachment to identified enterprises known for specific product processing and packaging within their locality, followed by six days of theoretical training on the same product and business management training.

ENTERPRISE START-UP AND DEVELOPMENT TRAINING SCHEME [ESDTS]:

This is delivered through the organization of business training for unemployed graduates of tertiary institutions, matured people and retirees with a view to inculcating entrepreneurial traits in them by assisting them to conceptualize their business ideas into marketable products and services that would be sold at a profit. It is geared towards tutoring beneficiaries to write a bankable feasibility report. Attendance of this training is a prerequisite to access loans under the Enterprise Creation Fund.

MICRO BUSINESS SKILLS TRAINING SCHEME [MBSTS]:

The training is meant to expose school leavers, artisans and graduated trainees of the NDE;s programmes to the rudiments of business operations and management.

MICRO ENTERPRISES ENHANCEMENT SCHEME [MEES]:

The scheme is designed to meet the needs of operators of micro enterprises desirous of expanding the scope of their business.

ENTERPRISE CREATION FUND [ECF]:

Under this scheme, loans are disbursed to beneficiaries of SSE training programmes whose feasibility reports were appraised and found viable. These loans are accessible to both graduate and non-graduate beneficiaries of Start-Your-Own-Business [SYOB] AND Basic Business Training [BBT] schemes.
Loans are disbursed in line with agreed milestones between the Directorate and the loan beneficiaries.

TRAINING FOR WOMEN IN INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITIES:

This training is conducted under the Women Employment Branch [WEB], Women are trained on business skills to enable them establish specific skill-based enterprises within the shortest possible time. The acquired skills enable the women generate income with a view to empowering them to be self-employed. At the end of the training selected participants are provided with seed funds to set up and practice the skills they have acquired.
In this way, wealth is created as well as employment generated. Skills under this scheme are:

  • Cosmetology
  • Making of shoe and bag with adire materials
  • Soft furnishing
  • Beads and wire works
  • Hat making
  • Tie and dye
  • Confectionery

The National Directorate of Employment presents a Skills Acquisition Scheme aimed at creating jobs for Nigerians. You are invited to apply for the training programme as it is designed to equip you with productive skills. See more information below.

GRADUATE COACHING SCHEME [GCS]:

The Graduate Coaching Scheme [GCS] basically involves the recruitment of graduates of tertiary institutions with bias in education where available, as instructors to coach the students preparing for WAEC/NECO/JAMB.
Duration is 3 months.

GRADUATE ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME [GAP]:

This scheme is designed to provide unemployed graduates with practical experience and skills through hands on training for a period of 6 months in reputable organizations where their services are needed with regard to their area of specialization.
Duration is 1 year.

SOLAR ENERGY TRAINING SCHEME [SETS]:

Solar Energy Training Scheme [SETS] involves the training of unemployed graduates on maintenance and installation of solar powers systems as well as procurement of solar panels.
Duration is 6 months.

ENVIRONMENTAL BEAUTIFICATION TRAINING SCHEME [EBTS]:

This scheme is designed for the training of unemployed persons [graduate and non-graduate] in hard and soft landscaping.
They are 3 categories of skills under this scheme namely:

  • Hard landscaping [interlocking ties]
  • Soft landscaping [planting of flowers for indoor and outdoor beautification]
  • Plaster of Paris [POP]

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SCHEME [CDS]:

This scheme is designed to generate mass employment at community levels in collaboration with benefiting communities, which provides a ready source of on-the–job training for unskilled and skilled members of the community leading to capacity building of designated technical personnel.
Skills under this scheme are:

  • Concrete well/water catchment construction
  • Sanitation
  • Neighborhood corps

RURAL EMPLOYMENT PROMOTION (REP)

The National Directorate of Employment presents a Skills Acquisition Scheme aimed at creating jobs for Nigerians. You are invited to apply for the training programme as it is designed to equip you with productive skills. See more information below.

RURAL AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING SCHEME [RADTS]:

RADTS adopted farming demonstration and training approach in capacity building for community empowerment and rural development. This training is for school leavers and other members of the rural community.
Duration is 3 months. Training duration: Tutorial classes and practical demonstration – 1 month,Attachment to well established farms – 2 months.
The skills set under this scheme are:

  • Crop production
  • Livestock
  • Agriculture
  • Micro-livestock
  • Agro-services
  • Business training

INTEGRATED FARMING AND TRAINING SCHEME [IFTS]:

This involves the impartation of agri-business skills, life skills and success attitudes that will lead to competence in the proper management of mixed farming enterprises as agric-preneurs to unemployed graduate of tertiary institutions. After the training, beneficiaries are empowered with cash component to set up mixed farms at the IFTS Centers.
Presently, states with IFTS centers are:

  • Abia
  • Borno
  • Delta
  • Katsina
  • Kwara
  • Oyo

DURATION: 3 years.

RURAL HANDICRAFT TRAINING SCHEME [RHTS]:

This involves training the rural farmer participants in the production and marketing of viable handicrafts within their localities using locally sourced raw materials. The training lasts for four months with the objectives of generating another stream of income for the farmers during the off-season and reduces idle time.
Skills under this scheme include:

  • Pottery
  • Basket weaving
  • Mat making
  • Hat making
  • Cane chairs making

 

POST-RADTS TRAINING:

Short duration training of one or two weeks for an up-grade of knowledge and competence of graduates of RADTS in agri-business techniques in specialized areas such as:

  • Fish fingering production
  • Bio-fertilizer and Bio-pesticide production
  • Export-grade fish processing and fish oil production
  • Feed formulation and production
  • Seedling multiplication and Agro services
  • Other areas of training include training on Bio-security and Biological Risk Management for Livestock Enterprises.
    The training creates awareness, coach participants on risk management assessment, formulation of appropriate bio-security/BRM plans for different classes of livestock and the implementation and managing of disease risk at a moderate cost applying effective control measures as a component of total enterprise security also, participants learn steps to take in times of disease outbreak.

NDE AGRICULTURAL PARK:

Is an all-inclusive agri-business cluster of commercial activities with a high employment generation potential offering training, mentorship and business support. The park is designed for graduates and non-graduates and aimed at building the capacity of the unemployed youths with appropriate skills for successful management of technology driven and innovative Small Scale Agribusiness.
The project has been established at two locations:

  • Akunnu Akoko North LGA in Ondo state
  • Sabuwa LGA in Katsina state

VOCATIONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT (VSD)

The programme involves the use of NDE skills acquisition training centers across the country as well as informal sector operators such as master crafts-men and women as training outlets for unskilled school leavers. Where the informal sector operators are use, the trainees are attached with them for periods long enough for the apprentices to acquire the necessary skills. The department also deploys well-equipped mobile workshops to train unemployed youths in rural areas where informal training outlets are non-existent.

  1. TRAINING FOR THE VULNERABLE:

    This special vocational training is designed for unskilled and unemployed persons with special needs [i.e. vulnerable, physically challenged, widows, commercial sex workers, displaced persons, orphans etc] in order to empower them with functional skills that will enable them to become self-employed and self-reliant.
    Skills include:

  2. COMMUNITY BASED TRAINING SCHEME

    The community based training scheme is aimed at training youths and women in high income generating activities within their various localities. This is with a view to engaging them in productive ventures thereby enabling them to contribute to the economic well-being of the nation.
    Skills under this scheme:

    • POP design
    • Production of interlocking blocks
    • Satellite dish installation and tracking
    • Interior decoration
  3. RESETTLEMENT SCHEME [RS]:

    The resettlement scheme is designed to assist graduates of the National Open Apprenticeship Scheme [NOAS] with tools and equipment and working capital to enable them establish and run their own businesses successfully.

  4. ARTISANS RESETTLEMENT MAINTENANCE SCHEME [ARMS]:

    Under this scheme, graduated trainees of B-NOAS are empowered with cash to start their own businesses.

  5. TRAINERS CAPACITY UPGRADE:

    Towards enhancing the quality of training at the skills acquisition centers of the master crafts men/women, the NDE introduced the TCU, this scheme involves the provision of capital as soft loan to some of the master trainers to up-grade their centres with modern tools and equipment qualitative and effective training delivery.

Chevening/BBC World Service Group Professional Placement Programme

The Chevening Secretariat and BBC World Service Group are pleased to invite applications for the Chevening/BBC World Service Group Professional Placement Programme, commencing in September 2022.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Up to 10 placements are available to current Chevening Scholars studying relevant degree programmes in the UK.
  • Due to the nature of the professional placement, applicants must also demonstrate that they have at least two years’ experience as a working journalist, and/or have or will have completed a master’s in journalism from a UK university by the time that the placement starts.

The programme

Successful applicants will complete a three and a half month placement at the BBC.

Depending on their skills and interests, successful applicants could be placed in one of a number of areas of World Service Group activity including: World Service news programmes, BBC News online, World Service radio, digital output, BBC Media Action, BBC Monitoring, one of the BBC World Service language services, or Solutions-Focused Journalism.

The placement is expected to be hybrid, with some work taking place in the London BBC office and some work taking place at home. Successful applicants will be informed of any changes to the programme as necessary.

The programme will also include:

  • Enrolment on a bespoke one-week course at the BBC College of Journalism.
  • Access to College of Journalism courses on the same basis as BBC staff. Awardees will be expected to complete at least one additional course during their placement.
  • Successful applicants will be supervised at a BBC location in London and will have a BBC mentor to assist them during the placement.
  • Successful applicants will receive the Chevening stipend for the duration of the placement, in addition and in order to meet the BBC standards under the New Talent Policy, the BBC will provide a total ‘top up salary’ for the period. The exact top up amount will be confirmed at a later date, as it is calculated to coincide with each new financial year. Successful applicants will be expected to find suitable accommodation themselves.

To apply, you must complete a Chevening/BBC World Service Group Professional Placement Programme application form, AND submit the following to engage@chevening.org:

  • An up-to-date CV.
  • Status letter from your university that confirms the end date of your course.
  • A copy of your passport date page as well as a copy of your current Tier 4 visa/BRP ensuring eligibility to complete the placement in line with immigration regulations. Your visa needs to last long enough for you to complete this placement – until end of December 2022.
