The UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is sponsoring this course, which will build expertise and increase knowledge of issues faced by rural communities, help journalists to present new viewpoints and promote discussion on how small-scale agriculture can respond to the growing demand for food and on the essential need to support rural transformation as food insecurity, climate change and economic uncertainty intensify. Requirements

• Thomson Reuters Foundation is inviting journalists from East Africa to apply for this workshop, which will cover food security, food production, markets and climate issues and include a skills lab on online verification, social media and digital story telling.
• Applicants must be full-time journalists or regular contributors working for media organisations based in the following countries: Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania.
• Applicants should have a minimum of two years’ professional experience, have a good level in spoken and written English and should explain through their applications why they will benefit from participation in this course, and how they plan to use the learning in their professional work.

• Once selected, applicants will also be asked to provide a letter from their editor supporting their participation in the programme, including a commitment to publish the story they will produce should they participate in the mentoring component of the course. The DSNFWD is a four-month residency program designed by The Assembly in collaboration with Ravensbourne University for 3D digital creators, fashion entrepreneurs and university students looking to create innovative digital fashion products and experiences in collaboration with international peers.

DSNFWD is aimed at West African 3D digital creators and fashion entrepreneurs working in garment, textile and accessory design, styling, merchandising and brand management.

The Tällberg-SNF-Eliasson Global Leadership Prize was launched in 2015 to identify and recognize leaders who are innovative, courageous, dynamic, and—above all—ethical. Leaders who are energized, not overwhelmed, by challenges. Leaders who demonstrate the willingness and capacity to address the complexity of 21st-century realities in innovative, risk-taking, and value-based ways, and whose work is global in aspiration or implication.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Leaders from any discipline and any part of the world are eligible
• $50,000 and $10,000 awards
• 7 prizes in total from 2 categories: 2 established and 5 emerging leaders
• Winners become part of a network of global leaders
• Worldwide exposure that amplifies an honoree’s influence.

Prize:

The generous support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation allows us to recognize two established and five emerging leaders this year:

• Each established leader will be honored by the Tällberg Foundation in a virtual ceremony towards the end of 2022, will receive an unrestricted grant of $50,000.
• Each emerging leader will be honored by the Tällberg Foundation in a virtual ceremony towards the end of 2022, will receive an unrestricted grant of $10,000.

Application Procedure:

Anyone, anywhere—except for prize jurors—can nominate a leader from any country and from any discipline e.g. politicians, statesmen, scientists, educators, social entrepreneurs, CEOs, environmentalists, artists, religious and military figures, and others.

Minority Africa Fellowship 2022 for African Journalists and Storytellers

The Minority Africa Fellowship, a project by Minority Africa — a digital publication using data-driven multimedia journalism to tell African minority stories — targets journalists and storytellers from minority groups across Africa providing them with the platform, skill, and mentorship to report stories from and about their communities.

Through an intensive six-month paid program, fellows will be trained by journalists from the Minority Africa newsroom as well as a network of journalists who work for or have worked across the continent with the Associated Press, Agence France Presse, Reuters, RFI, CNN, The Guardian, Time, and began legacy media companies tackling present media problems including one praised by former US President Barack Obama.

This training program includes modules on solutions journalism, data journalism, interrogating the scope of inclusive futures within the metaverse, as NFTs and AI adoption grow, and the geopolitics of climate change among others.

Eligibility

• Fellows have to be at least 18 years of age, they have to be from and living in an African country and belong to at least one of the minority groups highlighted in the focus areas above.
• They can be writers, photographers, filmmakers, journalists, or a combination of all and have relevant and provable work experience in their chosen areas.

Benefits

• They will be paid a monthly allowance, receive an internet stipend, and intra-country travel related to the coverage of stories will be covered by Minority Africa.
• By the end of the program, each fellow would have published 12 stories on Minority Africa. These stories will be a blend of reported multimedia features as well as opinions and analysis. The program is entirely virtual and the first cohort runs from May to October 2022.
• Must have demonstrable work experience in their chosen area.
• Be able to commit 15 – 20 hours each week to the fellowship.
• Able to understand and communicate in English. Applicants don’t have to be excellent speakers but they do have to know how to communicate in English. This on the other hand does not have to be the primary language they work in. We will consider applicants who for instance write primarily in other languages such as Portuguese, Swahili, or French but are able to communicate in English.
• Access to the internet and good data connection. While we understand internet access is not available everywhere on the continent, being an entirely virtual fellowship, connectivity is a crucial component. Besides their allowance, fellows will be provided with a monthly internet stipend.

Fellowship Experience

• During the fellowship, fellows will be familiarized with editorial guidelines of Minority Africa and will work and report on stories for the publication.
• They are paired with external mentors, work with editors in the newsroom, and are required to produce at least two stories every month.

The Tommy Hilfiger Fashion Frontier Challenge is an annual program to discover and accelerate the work of the world’s most innovative and impactful fashion startups. Through mentoring and financial support, we want to help the best ideas break through.

CALL TO ACTION – submission of project proposals that focus on inclusive fashion.
