LiveWIRE Nigeria is a youth enterprise development programme supported by The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC). The programme operates in the Niger Delta region and aims to inspire, encourage and support young people aged 18-30 to start up their own businesses in the Nigerian states of Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Akwa-Ibom.

Programme Objectives

The objectives for the LiveWIRE Programme in Nigeria are to;

  • Provide intensive entrepreneurship training
  • Raise business awareness amongst final year university students to encourage them to see starting a business as a valid career option.
  • Support youths to discover and develop business ‘ideas’ through Bright Ideas workshops.
  • Make available to youths, business planning and management guidelines and skills through the ‘Become A Successful Owner Manager Course’ (BSOM).
  • Provide business start-up grant for candidates with the best business plan
  • Run awards for best business plans, of which the prize gives access to micro-credit facilities, through third parties like banks, NGOs and allied financial institutions.
  • Support young entrepreneurs to formalise their businesses
  • Run an award for young people who have sustained a business for 1 to 3 years and continue the award on an annual basis.
  • Provide a volunteer mentoring programme for those who have completed the training course and decide to pursue starting their own business. Mentors can be drawn from oil and gas, banking, social voluntary sectors, etc.
  • Provide opportunity for young people to participate in global award programmes
  • Provides automatic membership of LiveWIRE alumni.

Presidential Youth Empowerment Scheme (P-Yes) Online Registration 2020/2021

P-Yes is designed as an incubation program whereby youth will be directly empowered with Seed Empowerment Tools (SET) with the aim of creating multiple layers of empowerment.

In this post we will be guiding you on how to apply for the P-YES recruitment 2019 using the approved online portal.

Aim of the P-Yes Program

The scheme aims to create at least 774,000 empowerment opportunities through direct youth empowerment over a minimum period of two years.

The scheme is designed to equip the youth with requisite skills, knowledge and resources that will make them productive; thereby reducing poverty and creating an economically empowered youth population that can contribute meaningfully to national growth.

Eligible Applicants

The P-YES scheme covers the “Youth” defined in the Nigerian National youth policy (2009) as male and female individuals whose ages are between 18 and 40 years old.

Applicant must provide a Second Level Beneficiary (SLB) to qualify for benefitting from the scheme.

This guide is specifically for students who just completed their industrial training (IT) /SIWES or who which to begin their training process on how to write an awesome SIWES report this year.

Before, we continue let us give you more hint on what this article would cover. We will introduce you to SIWES, why you need to write a report and how to write an awesome IT report.

Introduction to SIWES and report writing

What is SIWES/Industrial Training (IT)?

SIWES is an acronym that stands for the students industrial work experience scheme (SIWES). Industrial training is a skills training programme designed to expose and prepare students of Universities, Polytechnics/Colleges of Technology/Colleges of Agriculture and Colleges of Education for the industrial work situation they are likely to meet in an ideal work environment after graduation.

A SIWES training can be from 3 months to a year depending on the academic structure of the school.

What is a SIWES Report or Industrial Training Report?

A SIWES/IT report is an important document prepared by a student after successful completion of his/her industrial training. The report is expected to show the level of development of practical and professional skills of the students. Simply put, a SIWES report contains all you learnt during the course of the training.

A copy of the report should be submitted to your Faculty (required-through the respective Adviser). It is also adviced that you keep a copy of the report for personal use.

Purpose of the SIWES/IT Report

There are many benefits of writing this report, we will be listing only 3 reasons below

  • Put down in writing the record of the training experience i.e personal performance reflection
  • Means of summarizing the experience of a student
  • Train student in effective writing as a preparation for the Final Year Project.

How to write a superb SIWES/IT Report

Guideline for Preparation of SIWES/Industrial Training Report

The procedure for preparation of the IT report has to follow the format instructed by your Faculty. However, there is a widely accepted format by all faculties and we would be guiding you using this approved format.

Approved Report Writing Format

The report has to be typewritten on white A4 size paper, font-size of 12 points and Times New Roman font has to be used throughout the IT report, with line spacing of 1.5.

The report has to be properly bound with ‘spiral or tape binding’.

Front Cover Format

The format for the front cover should be bold and well arranged.

How to write Abstract/Preface of SIWES report

This section of the report should consist of brief description of the following:

  1. Activities of the Organization (where you carried out the IT)
  2. Summary of the Report
  3. Acknowledgement

Please note– This section of the report is limited to two (2) pages only.

How to write Table of Contents for SIWES report

The table of contents of the report should consist of:

  1. Titles
  2. Sub-titles
  3. Page numbers

Ensure that each page is numbered accordingly.

A standard IT report consist of the preliminary page, followed by 5 chapters as elaborated below

  • Dedication
  • Acknowledgement
  • Table of content
  • Abstract

Chapters and contents

CHAPTER ONE

  • Aims/Objectives of the programs

 CHAPTER TWO

  • Description of the establishment of the organization

  • Organization structure including the organogram of the establishment
  • The various departments/ groups/ sections in the establishment and function

 CHAPTER THREE

  • Activities carried out in the organization or during the cause of the Industrial Training
  • Report clearly on activities carried out in the organization actually with clear statement on experience acquired

CHAPTER FOUR

  • Problems Encountered
  • Report clearly on the problems encountered doing your stay in the organization or while undergoing the training.

CHAPTER FIVE

  • Summary, conclusion and recommendation
  • State clearly your recommendation, conclusion and summary of all the activities during the SIWES program

We explained JAMB CAPS in a previous article and how to accept or reject your admission. This article, is to help you know if you have gained admission via your JAMB CAPS portal.

How to check your 2020/2021 admission status on JAMB CAPS Portal

  • If you are using a mobile device, use google chrome or firefox browser
  • Go to your JAMB CAPS PORTAL HERE
  • Scroll down to check JAMB CAPS UTME/DE Admission status.
  • Click on UTME/DE Admission to accept/reject your admission.
  • Your JAMB score, institution, date of birth, etc will appear when you have successfully logged in.
  • If you are given admission and you are okay with the institution click on accept admission.
  • If the institution and course space is empty/you have not been offered admission keep checking back, don’t panic.
  • Do not accept admission when you have not been offered admission or when you are expecting admission from another school.
  • If you accept the admission you can not accept any other school admission, so be sure before accepting.
  • If you see welcome on your screen when you open JAMB CAPS it’s because you are using a mobile device. Simply use desktop version to see the menu and then you can click on check admission status (Click on the three dots on Google Chrome and scroll down to see desktop site).

What is not admitted on JAMB CAPS portal?

It simply means that no school has offered you admission yet, but don’t worry, all you have to do is logout and keep checking your portal regularly.

JAMB CAPS 2020/2021-How to ACCEPT or REJECT Admission Offer on the portal

You must have heard about JAMB CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System) it’s significance and importance in gaining admission right? Well not to worry if you haven’t, we are here to give you all you need.

What is JAMB CAPS?

JAMB CAPS is the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board Central Admissions Processing System. JAMB CAPS was set up by JAMB in 2017 to monitor and regulate admission.

The aim was to ensure that no student was cheated of his/her admission and also present the students to a larger admission pull. The portal is a platform created to ensure quality control, transparency and credibility of the admission process. Through the JAMB CAPS portal, you can accept or reject admission offers.

How can I accept admission on JAMB CAPS 2020/21?

For easy usage, we will be given you the steps to do this on your computer or mobile device.

For Computer

  1. Go to http://www.jamb.org.ng/efacility/.
  2. Input your Email Address and Password and login.
  3. Click on ‘Check 2019 UTME/DE Admission Status on CAPS‘.
  4. Select ‘Admission Status‘ on the left panel.
  5. Click on the ‘Search‘ button in front of your JAMB Registration Number to load your profile.
  6. You can now accept your admission offer under ‘Admission Profile’.

For Mobile

If you want to access the JAMB CAPS portal with a mobile device, we recommend you use google chrome browser and open the desktop browser view.

  1. Go to http://www.jamb.org.ng/efacility/
  2. Login with your registered Email and Password.
  3. Click on ‘Check 2019 UTME/DE Admission Status on CAPS‘
  4. You can continue to accept the admission using the process for computer above.

How can I reject admission on JAMB CAPS 2020/21?

Rejecting admission on JAMB CAPS is the same process as stated above. You need to login to your JAMB CAPS portal, follow the procedures as stated above and click on reject admission.

Bonus Information on JAMB CAPS 2020/21

  • Candidates who have been offered admission on JAMB CAPS are to print out their admission letter after accepting the admission. The letter would be needed during clearance and registration in the school they got the admission.
  • If you used “awaiting result” during your registration, upload your O’Level result on JAMB portal here so that your institution of choice will be able to process admission.

Before we proceed, it is important we inform you that Nursing Science is a clinical course and not all Nigerian Universities offer the course. Ensure that you selected an accredited university during your JAMB 2020 registration, you can also do JAMB change of course/ JAMB change of institution.

The usual cut-off mark set by JAMB is 180 for Nursing Science, but not all schools accept this score as some schools like Ahmadu Bello University, University of Benin, University of Ibadan etc. set their Nursing Cutoff mark between 200-250 and above.

If you are applying for admission into such schools you must ensure you have a high JAMB Score.

Other courses like Law, Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy are also very competitive and you must also score very high to stand a chance of getting admission into the university of your choice.

Post UTME Cutoff Mark for Nursing in all universities

You would already know that to gain admission into any university does not depend on how high you performed in JAMB but also how well you perform in the Post-UTME screening/Exam of your choice institution.

While some schools write screening exams, others just screen the qualifications such as WAEC result etc.

How to gain admission to study Nursing in any university 2020

The reason you have read all this, is simply because you are serious about gaining admission to study your dream course-Nursing.

To gain admission into universities that base their admission selection on the average score between your JAMB Score and Post UTME score,you must do very well in both exams, however, if you didn’t score so high in JAMB, all hope is not lost as you can make up for it in your 2020 Post UTME.

For Universities that conduct post utme, if you are applying for Nursing Science, you must have at least a minimum Post UTME score of 65-70%. This would increase your chances of getting your dream admission this year.

Please know that this course is very competitive and as such you must work very hard to scale through.

It is also important that you got good grades in your SSCE/O’level/NABTEP/NECO etc.
