This is great news for Nigerians who wish to live and work in the United States of America. We will like to notify you that the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Abuja are currently receiving applications from qualified persons who are willing to teach Hausa or Yoruba languages and cultures to American students in U.S. universities and colleges.

About the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program

The Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program is a nine month non-degree course funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education.

The objective of the program is to strengthen foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges, universities, and some high schools, while providing future teachers from abroad the opportunity to refine their skills, increase their English language proficiency, and expand their knowledge of U.S. society and culture.

FLTA fellows must return to their home countries upon completion of their programs to teach English at the secondary or university level.

General Qualifications and Requirements

All applications must meet the following criteria:

Applications must be completed and submitted online.
Applicants should request that the academic office of their institution send a stamped copy of their transcripts in a sealed envelope to: The Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy, Plot 1075 Diplomatic Drive, Central Area, Abuja, Attention: Cultural Affairs Officer.
Other documents to be submitted include academic credentials, signed and stamped letters of reference, and the photo page of a valid Nigerian passport.
Applicants must be teachers of English or in training to become teachers of English.
Applicants must possess a university degree in English, Language Arts, or combined honors.
Applicants must be fluent in English, demonstrated by a TOEFL score of 79-80 (Internet based testing) or 6.0 (overall score International English Language Testing System-IELTS).
Applicants must be between 21 and 29 years old at the time of application.
Applicants must demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity and professionalism.
Applicants must be physically present in their home country throughout the nomination and selection process.

Job Description:

Prioritizes and supports customer enquiries via email in timely manner.
Handles incoming calls and refers callers to appropriate department or personnel.
Solves customer problems relating to the product or service in a timely manner.
Updates customer accounts and amends orders as appropriate.
Investigates customer complaints in a timely manner ensuring a satisfactory outcome.
Ensures in-depth knowledge of the products or services offered by the company.
Prepares and maintains spread sheets, reports, relevant databases.
Liaises with other teams or departments on a regular basis.
Understand the compnay’s business process
Assists in office administrative duties including answering and fielding telephone calls, word processing, and document filing, faxing and scanning.
Conducts arrival and departure in all areas of the front office by receiving and attending to clients/visitors.

Degree Requirements/Qualifications

HND/BSC (or equivalent) in Business Administration/Management Studies, Consumer Studies or Marketing, secretarial studies.
Chartered Member status with the Institute of Customer Service (ICS) will be advantageous.

Additional Skills

Previous experience in a customer focused role.
Excellent communication skills – written and oral.
Thorough product knowledge
Excellent listening skills
Excellent communication – written & oral
Ability to work well under pressure and work independently.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Meticulous, accurate, well-organized and efficient with strong inter-personal skills
Must be computer literate.

Shell LiveWIRE Nigeria – LiveWIRE Nigeria Programme Application

LiveWIRE Nigeria is a youth enterprise development programme supported by The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC). The programme operates in the Niger Delta region and aims to inspire, encourage and support young people aged 18-30 to start up their own businesses in the Nigerian states of Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Akwa-Ibom.

Programme Objectives

The objectives for the LiveWIRE Programme in Nigeria are to;

Provide intensive entrepreneurship training
Raise business awareness amongst final year university students to encourage them to see starting a business as a valid career option.
Support youths to discover and develop business ‘ideas’ through Bright Ideas workshops.
Make available to youths, business planning and management guidelines and skills through the ‘Become A Successful Owner Manager Course’ (BSOM).
Provide business start-up grant for candidates with the best business plan
Run awards for best business plans, of which the prize gives access to micro-credit facilities, through third parties like banks, NGOs and allied financial institutions.
Support young entrepreneurs to formalise their businesses
Run an award for young people who have sustained a business for 1 to 3 years and continue the award on an annual basis.
Provide a volunteer mentoring programme for those who have completed the training course and decide to pursue starting their own business. Mentors can be drawn from oil and gas, banking, social voluntary sectors, etc.
Provide opportunity for young people to participate in global award programmes
Provides automatic membership of LiveWIRE alumni.
