Operations Interns at UN Women

UN Women – In July 2010, the United nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system (DAW, OSAGI, INSTRAW and UNIFEM), which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Background

  • UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
  • UN Women is currently seeking interns to support the Nigeria country office operations team

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The interns will work with the Operations team of UN Women Nigeria country office, supporting these key functions: finance, HR, travel & logistics, procurement, general office administration and ICT. The Operations team is situated in Abuja. The interns will learn about the dynamic functions of the UN, the collaborative work among UN agencies, operational processes, their importance to programmatic delivery, and how the interaction of operations and Programme together achieve Programme delivery.
  • Under the overall supervision of the UN Women Nigeria CO Operations Manager, the interns will be assigned roles/responsibilites and expected to perform some of the following duties:

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: Social Sciences including Administration, Management, Economics, Accounting, or other relevant subjects; Science and Technology including Computer Sciences, Mathematics or other relevant subjects, is required.

Meet one of the following:

  • Be enrolled in a Graduate School Programme (Second University Degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent)
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; or
  • Be enrolled in a Postgraduate Professional Traineeship Program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements
  • Be enrolled in a mandatory national service programme of which the internship may form a part;
  • Strong ICT skills is an asset
  • Ability to work with large data sets and organize data is an asset

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Job Description

  • Supporting the HP manager in organizing and carrying out assessments and research on the impact of HP activities and identifying and reporting the constraints, difficulties or strength points of the HP strategy inside and outside the medical structures in order to reinforce the link between the communities and the project.
  • Supervising, in close collaboration with the HR department, the HR associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
  • Ensuring cleanliness of IEC (information, education and communication) areas
  • Collecting and reporting to the medical team any information linked to the health situation of the population and the patient.
  • Providing support in selecting and developing quality pedagogical communication strategies towards the community.
  • Planning information campaigns, including targets, objectives, methods and goals in order to increase awareness among the targeted population.
  • Informing, according to protocols, community members about health-related issues
  • Organizing health awareness sessions for MSF’s medical and non-medical staff
  • Identifying key actors and being the focal point for the networking in order to support the dissemination of health information of the target population and be the point of reference for the relation and networking with these subjects.
  • Organizing, training, and supervising the HP team in terms of planning and organizing their work, supporting, evaluating and coaching of personnel, collecting reports and reporting the activities of each health worker and regularly visiting communities that are under his/her responsibility

Requirements

Education:

  • Essential Diploma in Social Sciences, Public Health or Education / Pedagogy.

Experience:

  • 1 year experience in health promotion activities in MSF or other NGOs, or 2 years minimum training education activities

Languages:

  • Essential fluent in English and Hausa.

Knowledge:

  • Basic computer skills are mandatory (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

DAAD Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience – P.R.I.M.E. 2022/2023 for Research study in Germany (Funded)

In 2014 the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) initiated the programme “Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience” (PRIME) to support the international mobility of postdoctoral researchers by temporary positions at German universities in place of conventional scholarships. The programme has been funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union (EU/FP7/Marie Curie Actions/COFUND). Funding is provided for 18 months, in which 12 months have to be spent abroad and 6 months (re-integration phase) at a German university. The re-integration phase is mandatory. The German university administrates the salary during the whole funding period.

Requirements

  • Applicants with above-average qualifications from all faculties can apply. They must have completed their doctorate with very good results before the start of funding.
  • There are no restrictions regarding nationality and current residency. However, depending on nationality and place of residence, restrictions may apply when choosing the destination country for the stay abroad

Funding

  • DAAD provide funding for an 18-month employment contract at a German university to conduct a 12-month research stay abroad with a subsequent return phase to Germany.
  • During your 12 months abroad, you may combine stays at several research institutions in one or several countries. Please indicate all host institutions in the application form

Duration of Funding

  • DAAD provide support for 18 months: the first 12 months are spent abroad and the remaining 6 months of the return phase are spent in Germany (funding cycle 12+6).
  • Integration into the German social security system is a prerequisite for the research stay abroad, therefore funding may have to begin with a 1-month starting phase in Germany (funding cycle 1+12+5). The respective local statutory insurance determines your status.

Support

The DAAD will conclude a grant agreement with the respective German university covering the costs for the
regular salary and the monthly expatriate allowance.
o Salary:
temporary 18-month employment contract at a German university according to pay scale TV-L EG 13.
o Expatriate allowance:
A monthly expatriate allowance for the research stay abroad is based on an area classification of the destination and the gross income of the fellows.

Travel allowance

PRIME Fellows receive the DAAD lump sum travel subsidy for postdoctoral scientists. Spouses (either by marriage or according to the German law on civil partnerships) and children are also eligible if they accompany the fellow for at least one month during the research stay abroad.Timeline

Finance Assistant at World Health Organization

World Health Organization (WHO) is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations system. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.

Objective of the Programme

  • Country Management Support Units (CSUs) have been established in the organisational structure to provide support for Managers and staff to fully assume their responsibilities in the GSM environment and to ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, rules and regulations on all administrative and financial matters and transactions in the context of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system

Description of Duties

Under the general supervision of the Programme, budget and finance officer and general guidance of the Operations Officer, the incumbent performs the following functions:

Support financial management through:

  • Maintenance of financial records and financial transactions and ensure e-Imprest records are up-to-date and fully balanced
  • Management of correspondences and responses to queries on office accounts and financial transactions as required
  • Generation of scheduled and ad hoc Global Management System reports and special reports as required to facilitate financial implementation analysis
  • Advice and assistance to staff on various financial processes, controls and operations in the GSM environment
  • Processing of VAT and other receivable due to the Organization to ensure their prompt recovery e.g. Staff telephone bills
  • Processing of suppliers’ invoices and monitors all requests for payments, ensuring the proper attachment of all supporting documents (invoices, contract, act of acceptance, etc.)
  • Liaison with GSC for all payments that are due to suppliers;Reconciliation of bank accounts; response to enquiries; provision of advice and guidance to clients in the Country Office and performing closely related tasks.

Required Qualifications

Education:
Essential:

  • Completion of Secondary Education or equivalent Technical Training or Commercial Education with specialization in Accounting, Budgeting or Finance

British Council Future News Worldwide Conference 2022 for young media makers.

The Future News Worldwide Conference 2022 (FNW22) is a 3-day virtual summit bringing together some of the world’s best student journalists.  Participants will join for 3 hours each day to hear from key note speakers, participate in a pitching workshop and network with other young journalists. The session will be repeated later in the day to allow participation from all time zones.

Future News Worldwide is a partnership programme between the British Council and some of the world’s leading media organisations; BBC, Google, Reuters, The Herald, The Quint and the UK schools of journalism.  Together we identify, train and connect the next generation of global journalists.

The Future News Worlwide annual summit is a central focus of the programme, and brings together 100 young journalists each July to learn from broadcasters, editors and reporters and meet their peers around the globe. Following the conference delegates join the FNW alumni network. In 2022 the summit will be held virtually.

Eligibility

Applications are open to young journalists working in any form of media, who meet the eligibility criteria below:

  • Aged 18-25 on 1 July 2022.
  • A registered undergraduate or postgraduate student (of any subject), enrolled at a university or higher education institution OR a recent graduate who completed their course after 1 July 2021.
  • A native speaker of English OR able to speak English at IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent (please note an IELTS qualification is NOT required, your language ability will be assessed via your response to Essay Question 1)
  • No previous participation in a Future NEWS or Future News Worldwide event
  • Dedicated to a career in journalism in any form.
  • Available to attend all three days of the online conference 12, 13, and 14 July 2022 (3 hours per day).

Prizes

The prize consists of a place at the Future News Worldwide 2022 digital conference, and inclusion in
the Future News Worldwide alumni network.
This includes the following:
• Attendance at the online Future News Worldwide 2022 conference.
• Inclusion in the Future News Worldwide alumni network with over 400 members.
Winning participants must attend all days of the Conference and partake in all programmed activities
unless by prior agreement with the British Council. Failure to comply with these terms will result in
removal from the FNW alumni network and exclusion from future FNW events.

Application Form

You will be asked to provide personal information and contact details, then to answer two Essay Questions. You may also provide a link to an online portfolio of work.

We recommend working offline and pasting your answers into the online form – as the form cannot be saved once started.

DAAD Leadership for Africa Master’s Scholarship Programme for East Africans (Fully Funded study in Germany)

The scholarship programme “Leadership for Africa” (LfA) aims to support the academic qualification and advancement of young refugees and national scholars from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda at higher education institutions in Germany. In times of conflicts and displacement in various African countries, this programme intends to contribute to the education of future leaders, who will be essential for the further development of their home countries. “Leadership for Africa” offers scholarships for Master studies in Germany to qualified applicants in all fields of study except for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Arts and Architecture. All “Leadership for Africa” scholarship holders benefit from a complementary training programme in good governance, civil society and career development. The mandatory programme must be completed in addition to the regular studies.

Requirements

The programme targets two groups:
1) Highly qualified refugees who hold refugee status and fulfil the necessary qualifications for Master’s studies in Germany.
Applicants must fulfil the following conditions:

  • Holding refugee status in their host countries, being granted before April 18th, 2022
  • Country of asylum must be either Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda or Uganda
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree at the time of application

2) Highly qualified graduates from Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda who fulfil the necessary qualifications for Master’s studies in Germany.
Applicants must fulfil the following conditions:

  • Citizenship of either Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda or Uganda
  • Country of residence is Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda or Uganda
  • Completed Bachelor’s degree at the time of application

Benefits

The scholarship includes:

  • Language course (up to 6 months) in Germany before the start of the university studies
  • Tuition-free M.A. or M.Sc. degree programme at a public or state-recognized university in Germany starting in the winter term 2023 (September/October 2023)
  • Additional mandatory training programme LEAD!

Duration of the funding

Generally, selected candidates will start their German language course in April 2023 and take up their studies at a German institution of higher education by approx. October 1st, 2023. The duration of funding is determined by the standard period of study of the chosen study programme. In general, Master’s programmes require two years of full-time study.

  • If necessary: Language course (2, 4 or 6 months) in Germany before the start of the study programme, including the coverage of the test fees for a German language certificate (TestDaF or DSH test), pocket money and accommodation. The DAAD decides whether to fund participation and for how long depending on German language skills and project. Participation in a language course is compulsory if the study programme is taught in German.
  • Additional mandatory training programme LEAD!
  • Monthly scholarship rate payments of 861 EURO
  • Adequate health, accident and private/personal liability insurance in Germany
  • Travel allowance
  • Yearly study allowance
  • If applicable, monthly rent subsidy and monthly allowance for accompanying family members (spouse and/or children)

The Zurich Enterprise Challenge gives you an opportunity of a lifetime to work with one of the world’s top insurance companies and interact with its corporate customers to solve real-life strategy and business challenges.

The Zurich Enterprise Challenge is a three-phase team competition designed to offer participating Masters, MBA or PhD students the opportunity to work directly with multinational corporations to provide real world solutions to existing corporate challenges.

Phase 1 – Qualification:

By solving a generic case study your team will get the chance to compete for proceeding to Phase 2. Zurich will recognize and reward teams based on business relevance, applicability and creativity of the team’s solution. Other selection criteria are the quality of layout and design of the submission, and presentation skills.

Phase 2 – Collaboration:

The top teams will collaborate with a selected Zurich multinational corporate customer to provide a solution for a real-world corporate challenge.

Phase 3 – Finalization:

The winning team will receive a cash prize of CHF 5’000 and the runner-up team a cash prize of CHF 2’000.

Eligibility

  • The Challenge is open to Master, MBA and PhD students (full or part-time) from any university worldwide.
  • Participants should have an interest in management, finance, strategy and risk management or similar subjects.
  • Multiple teams representing the same university can join the Challenge.
  • The Challenge is designed exclusively for enrolled Masters, MBA or PhD students from any university worldwide. Students graduating in 2022 are also eligible for the Challenge. Any student, independently of his/her area of studies, interested in management, finance, strategy and risk management is encouraged to participate.
  • This is a team challenge for teams of 3-4 members. All participants are required to register a profile on the registration website. Multiple teams representing the same university can also join the Challenge.

  • Select your team members (3-4) and assign a team captain. The duties of the team captain will be to manage the communication with Zurich and submit your presentation. The team captain is will register the team. Nigerian Army DSSC Course 26/2022 Computer Based Pre-Selection Exam

  • The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the general public that the Computer Based Pre-Selection Examination for Direct Short Service Commission Course 26/2022 will hold on Saturday 28 May 2022 in 24 centres across the nation.
  • Candidates are advised to check their registered emails, phone numbers and visit: recruitment.army.mil.ng for names of shortlisted candidates
  • The state centres selected by candidates have been grouped into zonal examination centres. The shortlisted candidates have also been assigned examination centres and are to report to the centres by 7 am on 28 May 2022.
  • All shortlisted candidates have been allotted Examination and Seat Numbers. Details of examination and seat numbers are indicated on the portal.
  • Candidates will not be allowed to write the Examination in any centre other than that allotted to the candidate on the portal.
  • All candidates are to bring the following:
