Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship 2022 at SOAS University of London, UK– Thanks to the generosity of the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable trust, four Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarships have been established for African Students (African nationals and resident in Africa), who wish to undertake a taught masters course at SOAS.

Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship 2022 at SOAS University of London, UK

Each Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship has a total value of £25,000 which will be put towards tuition fees. If tuition fees are less than this amount the remainder will be paid out as a stipend.

The Ferguson scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic merit.

Students offered an Allan and Nesta Ferguson Scholarship must take it up in the academic year 2022/23 and it cannot be carried forward to a later year.

In order to sharply focus the objectives of the Ten-Year Strategy (2013 – 2022) and ensure greater developmental impact, five major areas (High 5s), all of which will accelerate our delivery for Africa, have been identified for scaling up, namely: energy, agro-business, industrialization, integration and improving the quality of life for the people of Africa. The Internship program is part of a wider Talent Management Framework which facilitates the Bank to deliver on the Ten-Year Strategy and the High 5s.

Participants in the Program are selected on a competitive basis, based on business needs of the Bank.

Objectives:

The broad objectives of the program are to:

  • Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.

Terms and Conditions

Internships shall be granted to each candidate for a period not less than three (3) months and not more than six (6) months. The internship is authorized only once for any candidate.

Due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, interns shall not be required to travel to the duty station. The internship shall be done remotely from the interns’ respective locations. As such, interns are expected to have access to a personal computer, reliable internet connection and a conducive living environment that facilitates smooth and uninterrupted remote working.

In a few cases, and especially where the duties and responsibilities to be assigned to interns cannot be performed remotely, the Bank may approve on-site internships on an exceptional basis. In such instances:

interns shall be responsible for their air travel (in case of) to and from the Bank’s location as well as their upkeep.

Only interns who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 shall be authorised to access Bank’s office premises.

The Bank will use reasonable efforts to assist the concerned interns in obtaining their entry and residence visas.

Interns will benefit from a medical insurance coverage paid by the Bank during the period of their internship.

Eligible interns will be provided with a monthly stipend.

  • Must have attained the age of majority in their country of nationality or origin and be not more than Thirty (30) years old at the time of commencement of the internship program.
  • Be currently enrolled in a master’s level degree program in a recognized public or private educational institution of higher learning.
  • The candidate can apply for an internship within one (1) year of having obtained such a degree.
  • Be nationals of the member Countries of the African Development Bank.
  • Provide a letter from their school confirming their enrollment or a copy of the above-mentioned Degree.
  • Applicants must be fluent in at least one of the Banks’s two working languages (English or French).
  • Be able to use the Bank’s standard software packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); knowledge of SAP is desirable.

Master’s Scholarship Programme in German Studies at the UoN

The University of Nairobi (UoN) is offering a Master’s Scholarship Programme in German Studies (Funded). The two-year master’s programme (M.A. German Studies) was introduced in 1993 at the University of Nairobi (UoN). The DAAD has been funding the course since 2011 from the title Scholarships for the training and further education of African German students and German lecturers” with up to 10 scholarships (in country and in region) at the UoN as well as the one-semester stay in Germany included.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Grant rate of 240 euros per month (for Kenyans) or
  • Grant rate of 380 euros per month (for non-Kenyans)
  • Payment of the tuition fees at the UoN
  • Annual research grant
  • Health insurance (for non-Kenyans only)
  • Travel allowance (for non-Kenyans only)

Application Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in German Studies or German as a Foreign Language (DaF) as a major or minor.
  • At least  Second Class Upper Honors,
  • Knowledge of German at least at B2 level or equivalent.
  • The last degree should not be more than 6 years old at the time of application.

What does the Scholarship Offer?

Participation in the two-year master’s course in German Studies at the University of Nairobi including a research stay in Germany at the beginning of the second year of study (if funds are available).

Duration of the Scholarship

A total of 24 months, beginning October 1, 2022. Initially, a commitment is made for 12 months, after which one can apply for an extension of up to a further 12 months.

Job Overview / Summary

  • The Consortium Finance Coordinator is a key position for the BHA MMC/Jere consortium which provides support to IRC programs implemented through consortium. The position is primarily responsible for providing oversight and day-to-day financial management of the IRC led consortium, in very close coordination and cooperation with the IRC Nigeria Finance Team.
  • The position will be responsible for capacity building of consortium members, to build their financial management and administrative capacity. Consortium Finance Coordinator will work in close collaboration with staff in the Program teams, BHA MMC/Jere Consortium team and Finance teams.
  • The Consortium Finance Coordinator will provide support to the BHA MMC/Jere Consortium team to review partners budgets at the proposal stage, participate in pre-award vetting processes, document all financial matters related to sub-awardees’ finances to assure audit readiness at all times, and manage sub-awardee finances documents/reports including budget review, financial report review, providing guidance and training related to finance to sub-awardees in order to strengthen their capacity.
  • The Consortium Finance Coordinator acts as the focal point for financial and compliance aspects of the BHA MMC/Jere Consortium for sub-awardees, including ensuring high-quality financial monitoring of sub-awardees.

Requirements and Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or any related field.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive work experience in a non-profit setting overseeing and managing partners’ projects funded by major institutional donors, particularly BHA.

Demonstrated Technical Skills:

  • Detailed knowledge of BHA rules and regulation
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and handle multiple simultaneous.
  • Willing to travel within Nigeria.
  • Hard-working, sharp, and detailed oriented.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; tact, patience, diplomacy, and appropriate assertiveness.
  • Experience in training, capacity building, and mentoring of staff, NGOs/CBOs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present to groups of all sizes.
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently and part of a team.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

  • Proficiency in MS Office software suite – including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Experience working with databases and/or other tracking systems.

Ability to Travel:

  • % of time if applicable.
