One Young World Building for Peace Scholarship 2023/2024. Applications are now open for the One Young world Building For Peace Scholarship Program. Check below for the requirements and how to apply.

Everyone has the right to a place to call home. But for the 103 million people who are forcibly displaced today, conflict, violence, persecution and climate disasters have stripped them of this basic human need. With nowhere to turn, many displaced people seek shelter, often facing substandard living conditions. They have no guarantee of safety, or protection against the cold, damp, heat, rain or wind. Many settlements are meant to be temporary, but displaced people can spend years, and even decades, living in camps.

Driven by its purpose to build progress for people and the planet, Holcim partnered with the Norman Foster Foundation to develop the Essential Homes Research Project, a model for comfortable, durable and dignified housing for people in displacement. In this partnership, the Norman Foster Foundation designed essential housing to provide safety, comfort and wellbeing for displaced communities who can live in temporary settlements for over twenty years. Holcim provides its most innovative and sustainable solutions , from ECOPact low carbon concrete to Elevate Insulation boards, to make sustainable building accessible to all.

World Trade Organization PhD Internship Program 2023/2024

May 3, 2023 by Cyril O Leave a Comment

World Trade Organization (WTO) PhD Internship Program 2023/2024. The world Trade Organization is now inviting applications for the 2023 Ph.D internship program. See how to apply below and the requirements.

The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the only global international organization dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are the WTO agreements, negotiated and signed by the bulk of the world’s trading nations and ratified in their parliaments. The goal is to ensure that trade flows as smoothly, predictably and freely as possible. The WTO has many roles: it operates a global system of trade rules, it acts as a forum for negotiating trade agreements, it settles trade disputes between its members and it supports the needs of developing countries.

World Trade Organization (WTO) PhD Internship Program

The World Trade Organization Support Program for Doctoral Studies (also known as the PhD Internship Program) aims to support the development of academic expertise on WTO issues in developing countries. The WTO Secretariat invites doctoral students from developing countries to conduct research at the WTO and provides them with mentoring/advice in close collaboration with the students’ academic supervisors.

Participants in the PhD Internship Program are expected to advance their doctoral thesis during their time at the WTO, taking advantage of access to WTO facilities and information as well as opportunities for interaction with the general trade policy community. They are not expected to undertake assignments on behalf of the WTO Secretariat. A mentor is allocated to the doctoral student for the duration of his/her internship. The role of the mentor is to provide the student with advice, as required, in close collaboration with the student’s academic supervisors. Before the end of the PhD Internship Program, the participant is required to give a seminar on his/her work.

Benefits of WTO  PhD Internship Program

Interns under the PhD Internship Program receive a daily allowance of CHF 60 (including weekends and official holidays falling within the selected period). In addition, travel expenses (economy class air fare) to and from Geneva is covered by the WTO.

Medical health insurance coverage is mandatory in Switzerland, and interns are responsible for organizing their own health insurance prior to commencing their internship at the WTO.

Requirements for WTO PhD Internship Program

  2. Applicants must be undertaking a WTO-related PhD or equivalent in economics, law, international relations or other relevant discipline.
  3. Applicants must be in the final stage of their PhD. As a general guideline, a minimum of 75% of their thesis should be completed and submitted with their application.
  4. If the thesis is not in one of the three official WTO languages (English, French or Spanish) this will reduce the likelihood of acceptance to the program (which depends on the availability of WTO staff to serve as mentor).
  5. Applications must be accompanied by a written recommendation from the applicant’s academic supervisor plus a letter from the University attended by the applicant confirming that he/she is registered for a PhD degree.
  6. Those who are accepted into the PhD Support Program will be requested to provide a medical certificate prior to the commencement of their residency.
  7. Prior to accepting a candidate, the WTO Selection Committee may contact the applicant’s academic supervisor if further information is deemed necessary.

How to Apply

Interested candidates, who meet the above criteria, should complete two steps for their application to be considered:

Complete a general internship application form on the WTO external jobs platform

Send a separate email to ChinaProgramme@wto.org to indicate your interest in the China WTO Accessions Internship Program, with a copy of the online application form attached to the e-mail.

UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation

May 3, 2023 by Cyril O Leave a Comment

UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation 2023. Applications for the UNESCO Asia-pacific Awards for cultural Heritage conversations are now open. See how to apply below and the requirements.

UNESCO is the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It seeks to build peace through international cooperation in Education, the Sciences and Culture. UNESCO’s programs contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals defined in Agenda 2030, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015. Political and economic arrangements of governments are not enough to secure the lasting and sincere support of the peoples. Peace must be founded upon dialogue and mutual understanding.

UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation

The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation recognizes exemplary efforts by individuals and organizations to restore or conserve structures, places and properties of heritage value in the region. It encourages property owners to undertake conservation projects within their communities, either independently or by public-private partnerships.

Since it was first established in 2000, the Awards program has recognized 278 projects from 27 Asia-Pacific countries for their thorough understanding of their sites; their sound technical achievements; and their demonstration of social, economic and environmental impacts at all levels. In recognizing these practices, the Awards program has contributed to meaningful achievements in advancing a regional conversation about what constitutes cultural heritage, who has a stake in its stewardship, and how cultural heritage can contribute to the sustainable well-being of cities, societies and the environment.
