The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Program is an established national initiative, funded by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and managed by the Council

The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Program is unique in the Irish research landscape and complements other channels for funded postgraduate education in the Irish ecosystem. Among its features are:

Benefits of Government Of Ireland Masters Scholarship

The value of the scholarship will be up to a maximum of €28,000 per annum in any approved year and will consist of the following:

  • A stipend of €19,000 per annum;
  • A contribution to fees, including non-EU fees, up to a maximum of €5,750 per annum; and
  • Eligible direct research expenses of €3,250 per annum.

Duration of Program:

  • Research master’s degree: 12 months
  • Structured research master’s degree: 24 months
  • Traditional doctoral degree: 36 months
  • Structured doctoral degree: 48 months

Requirements for Government Of Ireland Masters Scholarship Qualification

Applicants from any country may hold a Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship, however applicants will fall under one of two categories based on nationality and residency

  • Applicants must fulfil the following criteria:
    • Have a first class or upper second-class honours bachelor’s, or the equivalent, degree. If undergraduate examination results are not known at the time of application, the Council may make a provisional offer of a scholarship on condition that the scholar’s bachelor’s, or the equivalent degree result is a first class or upper second-class honours. If a scholar does not have a first class or upper second-class honours bachelor’s, or the equivalent, degree, they must possess a master’s degree. The Council’s determination of an applicant’s eligibility on these criteria is final;
    • Must not have had two previous unsuccessful applications to the programme, including strategic partner themes. This includes applications since 2010 to the EMBARK Scheme previously run by the Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology, and the Government of Ireland Scholarship Scheme previously run by the Irish Council for Humanities and Social Sciences;
    • In the case of applications for a research master’s scholarship, applicants must not currently hold, or have previously held, a Council Postgraduate Scholarship;
    • In the case of applications for a doctoral degree scholarship, applicants must not currently hold, or have previously held, any Council Postgraduate Scholarship other than those which would enable them to obtain a research master’s degree.

Other Requirements

  • Applicants from any country may hold a Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship, however applicants will fall under one of two categories based on nationality and residency
  • For category one, applicants must meet BOTH of the following criteria:
    • Be a national of a European Union member state, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein or Switzerland
      AND
    • Have been ordinarily resident in a European Union member state, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein or Switzerland for a continuous period of three of the five years preceding 1 October 2023.

All other applicants will fall under category two.

While the majority of scholarships will be awarded to applicants who fall under category one, a proportion of awards will also be made to exceptional applicants who fall under category two. Please note that the Council may request documented evidence of an applicant’s nationality and residence.

Master’s: Admission to the Master of Science (M.S.) program requires the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate science degree in a relevant or related area, such as Engineering, Mathematics or the Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences.

Requirements for Princeton In Africa Fellowship Programme Qualification

Please note there are different eligibility requirements for our general/flagship fellowship program and our Nexus program. Please see both sets of eligibility requirements outlined below. Applicants would only be eligible to apply for both programs, if they are currently residing on the African continent, and have a bachelors or postgraduate degree from a U.S. accredited institution AND an African institution.

General/Flagship Fellowship Program Eligibility:

  • General applicants must be young professionals or current undergraduates graduating by June 2024 at the time of application.
  • General applicants must have a bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or a Ph.D. from a 4-year U.S.-accredited university.
  • General applicants must have full professional English proficiency as defined by the U.S. Department of State. Additionally, full professional proficiency in French is preferred at some posts.
  • General applicants must be not more than 35 years of age for the duration of the fellowship year (through August 2025).
  • General applicants must have a passport valid through the end of the fellowship year (August 2025).

Nexus Program Eligibility:

  • Nexus applicants must be young professionals or current undergraduates graduating by June 2024 at the time of application.
  • Nexus applicants must have an undergraduate degree or a Master’s degree (or equivalent), or a Ph.D. from an African university.
  • Nexus applicants must have full professional English proficiency as defined by the U.S. Department of State. Additionally, full professional proficiency in French is preferred at some posts.

General Requirements for Nigeria Police (NPF) Recruitment

These are some of the important requirements applicants must meet to be eligible for the next recruitment exercise:

1. Nationality: You must be a Nigerian citizen with valid identification, such as a driver’s license, international passport, or voter’s card.

2. Age Requirement: You should be between 18 and 25 years old. Applicants younger than 18 or older than 25 are ineligible.

3. Height: For males, the minimum height is 1.67m, while for females, it’s 1.64m.

4. Chest Measurement: This is applicable to male applicants only, with a minimum chest measurement of 0.86m.

5. Educational Qualifications: You must have at least five (5) credits in relevant subjects, including English and Mathematics, in your Olevel (WASSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB) result.

6. Guarantors Form: Applicants must fill out a Guarantors form with verifiable references.

7. Physical Requirements: Applicants with certain conditions are not allowed to apply, including speech impediments, knock knees, bow legs, flat feet, deformed hands, tattoos, bodily scars, defective eyesight, amputation of any body part, gross malformation of teeth, protruding navel, and pregnant women.
