How much does it cost to get an international passport in Nigeria?

The cost of getting an international passport in Nigeria is as follows:

  • 32-page passport booklet with a 5-year validity is Fifty Thousand Naira Only (N50,000)
  • 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity is One Hundred Thousand Naira Only (N100,000)

Previously it was N35,000 for 5 years passport and N70,000 for 10 years passport. The new price took effect on the 1st of September, 2024.

What are the requirements for an international passport in Nigeria?

Requirements For fresh application:

Adult (18 years and above)

  • Letter of identification from Local Government/State of origin or residence or National Identity Card OR Letter of introduction for employees of government as a Nigerian citizen stating Service Number, Length of Service and Designation/Rank. The letter must be accompanied with a valid staff identity card.
  • Completed passport application form.
  • Marriage certificate, where applicable.
  • Birth Certificate (certificate issued by the National Population Commission shall be required from applicants whose date of birth is with effect from Dec 1992) or Age Declaration attached with one passport-sized photograph and duly endorsed by a Commissioner for Oaths.
  • Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

Minor (under 18 years of age)

  • Completed passport application form attached with 1 passport sized photograph of minor to be endorsed on the reverse side by the consenting parent(s).
  • Evidence of Nigerian citizenship of parent(s).
  • Birth certificate (certificate must be issued by the National Population Commission for minors born within Nigeria).
  • Letter of consent from either parent.
  • Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

Court Order and Letter of approval from State Ministry of Women and Child Development (This Requirement is strictly for adopted child).

Requirements For Renewal/Reissue:

Expired Validity

  • Application Letter.
  • Passport Booklet.
  • Photocopy of Data Page of Passport.
  • Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

Unexpired Validity

  • Application Letter.
  • Passport Booklet.
  • Evidence of Maiden Name.
  • If Validity is more than Six (6) Months, Applicant should state reason(s).
  • Photocopy of Data Page of Passport.
  • Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

How long after capturing will I get my international passport in Nigeria?

The timeline for passport application is 6 weeks for fresh applications, 3 weeks for renewal and 8 weeks for correction of Data. The timeline is with effect from the completion of biometric capturing by the applicants.

What is MTN Share?

MTN Share (formerly Share ‘N’ Sell) is a service that allows you to transfer airtime(credit) from your MTN account to other MTN customers’ accounts. MTN Share can be used by all new and existing prepaid and postpaid customers on the MTN network. You can now transfer airtime Free of Charge.

Before you can transfer airtime, you must change the default PIN which is 0000.

How to Change your MTN Share PIN

  • Send an SMS with your Default PIN New PIN New PIN to 321. For example, send an SMS with ‘0000 1234 1234’ to 321.
  • You can also change your PIN by dialing *321*Default PIN*New PIN* New PIN# on your phone and then click on send/press ok. For example, dial *321*0000*1234*1234# and then send/OK.

Immediately you change your PIN using any of the options above, you will receive an SMS informing you that your PIN was changed successfully.

  • Send an SMS with Transfer, Recipient’s Number, Amount and PIN to 321. For example, you can send an SMS with ‘Transfer 08031234567 1500 1234’ to 321.

How to transfer airtime on MTN using USSD

  • Dial *321*Recipient’s Number*Amount*PIN# on your phone and then click on send/press OK. For example, dial*321*08031234567*1500*1234# and then send/OK. When the transfer has been completed, you will receive a message informing you that the transfer was successful.

Please note that:

  • You can only transfer in Naira amounts and not in kobo, i.e. you can transfer NGN71.00 but not NGN71.99.
  • You can transfer between NGN50.00 – NGN5,000.00 in a single transaction.
  • You can transfer up to NGN50,000.00 from your phone to either a single or multiple MTN accounts every day.
  • There is no limit to the maximum number of transactions per day.
  • If your MTN prepaid account does not have enough airtime to cover the amount you have requested to transfer, the transaction will not be completed and you will receive an error message.
  • If you are a postpaid customer, you will only be able to transfer airtime when your account is in positive. You will not be able to transfer airtime when your account is negative (-). For example, if your account balance is N-300.00. You will not be able to use MTN Share. On the other hand, if your account balance is N1,000.00 you will be able to transfer airtime up to the available N1,000.00 in your account.

Note:
All applicants must have existing active BEDC account numbers (prepaid or postpaid) before they can apply for metering. They must also ensure the use of valid email address and phone numbers during registration. Applicants must have any of the following document for identification purpose if they must complete the BEDC Meter Application Form.

  2. Inspection – After successful application, the customer’s premises will be visited for Inspection and Evaluation.

What is SCUML?

SCUML stands for Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering. It was established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in September 2005 in line with the provisions of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004, which was subsequently repealed and amended to Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (as amended).

Functions of SCUML

  1. Registration and certification of Designated Non-Financial Institutions (DNFIs)  and Non Profit Organisation (NPOs) in Nigeria.
  2. Sensitization of DNFIs in Nigeria on their compliance obligations, under the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 (as amended) and the implementation guidelines.
  3. Monitoring and supervision of the activities of DNFIs as it relates to AML/CFT.
  4. Conducting off-site, on- site, and spot checks inspection of DNFIs.
  5. Taking necessary enforcement actions to ensure compliance with the AML/CFT Laws and Regulations.
  6. Collection of statutory reports: Cash based transaction reports (CBTRs) and Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) for onward forwarding to the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
  7. Establishment and maintenance of comprehensive database of DNFIs and their financial transactions to support tactical, operational and strategic analysis as well as policy options in combating ML/FT.
  8. Strategic analysis using available data to identify emerging trends and patterns in money laundering and terrorist financing.
  9. Provision of vital information relating to DNFIs money trails to assist criminal investigations by Law Enforcement Agencies in order to boost the fight against economic and financial crimes within the DNFIs sector in Nigeria.
  10. Collaboration with stakeholders to ensure compliance with AML/CFT measures within the DNFI sector in Nigeria.

To get the SCUML Registration Form visit https://www.scuml.org

The registration is expected to be done online and if the submission confirmed that all documents has been duly uploaded, The registration period is between 15 – 20 working days and the collection of original certificate is expected to be done at the respective Zonal Office as indicated during the online registration.
