Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarships for ADCs and Developing Countries 2023/2024. Applications are now open for the Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarship Program. See how to apply below and the requirements.

The Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) supports countries in Africa, Asia, South Eastern and Eastern Europe as well as the Caribbean in their sustainable development. The Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs (MFA) plans ADC strategies. The Austrian Development Cooperation aims at reducing poverty, conserving natural resources and promoting peace and human security in partner countries. Long-term programs and projects support help towards self-help. The ultimate goal is to bring about a sustainable improvement in the conditions of life.

Another application round is open for the Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarships 2023/2024. Every year students from developing countries wishing to study in Austria are given a funding opportunity by the Austrian Development Cooperation to cover fees and living expenses.

Recommended – Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships 2023/2024 – Fully Funded

The Austrian Development Cooperation offers two types of scholarships:

  • Scholarship for ADC’s priority countries
  • Scholarship for other developing countries

Benefits of Austrian Development Cooperation Postgraduate Scholarship

For the ADCs, the scholarship includes:

  • Tuition fee
  • Accommodation
  • Flight tickets (from home country to Salzburg and back)
  • Health insurance
  • Food from Monday – Sunday
  • Excursions (except field trip to ITB Berlin)
  • €205,- pocket money per month

While for other developing countries, the scholarship includes:

  • Tuition fee
  • Health insurance
  • Food from Monday – Friday
  • Excursions (except ITB Berlin)
  • €205,- pocket money per month

Requirements for Austrian Development Cooperation Postgraduate Scholarship

The scholarships are generally for ADC’s priority countries and other developing countries

Open to all developing countries by definition.

Process for Austrian Development Cooperation Postgraduate Scholarship

Important Dates:

  • Deadline for the submission of the application form: March 31st, 2023*
  • Beginning of Courses: First day of October of the academic year.
  • Visa Application: You can start with the Visa application process right after receiving the letter of acceptance.

*Academic year: October to the middle of June

How to Apply

Please be aware that being offered a scholarship is not automatic and very competitive. Follow the steps below to apply;

  • Get information about ITH from an Austrian consulate or embassy
  • Download the ITH application form. Austrian embassies and consulates have this form as well.
  • Application Process – all applications should be sent directly to the Institute via post.
    This means the Institute has to receive the application latest by March 22.
  • Confirmation – You would receive information about the result of your application by the end of April. If you were awarded a scholarship you will receive a letter of acceptance.

Tips for a successful scholarship application:

  • Fill out the application form properly and legibly.
  • Make sure you supply all the required information and attach the entire required document.
  • Send translated English or German documents if required.
  • Include a working e-mail address, phone and fax number as your application might be abandoned if your e-mail address, phone and fax number are not good.
  • Apply early. Late applications will not be processed.
  • Provide all admission requirements (read the ITH application form, and visa process carefully).
  • Clarify any doubts with the ITH office and Austrian embassy/consulate (In written form: e-mail or regular mail).
  • Show with facts why you should receive a scholarship (achievements, goals…).

Job Description

  • Monitor the progress of the grant vis-à-vis implementation of approved activities and target achievement.
  • Support the GMU Coordinator to coordinate and ensure timely submission of the Reprogramming requests from all implementing entities (SASCP, STBLCP and RSSH) including the SRs and TAs on the grant.
  • In collaboration with the Implementing Units (SASCP, STBLCP, and RSSH), ensure technical guidelines and protocols are made available to the Sub Recipients, health facilities, and supported health workers are trained on their application.
  • Provide feedback, support, and capacity development to Sub Recipients and other implementers (SASCP, STBLCP, and RSSH) on the implementation of grant activities. and proactively identify areas for improvement and attention that will enhance grant performance.
  • Contribute to the regular assessment of performance by Sub Recipients and TA Providers with the overarching objective of improving the grant performance.
  • Support the Coordinator to ensure the reporting requirements (including timely submission) are fulfilled throughout the period of the grant.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of communication with national programs to ensure effective technical coordination of grants and to ensure programmatic information and practices are considered in developing strategies and interventions for the grants to the Ministry of Health.
  • Other duties as directed by the Coordinator of the Global Fund Grant Management Unit.

Requirements And Qualifications

Interested persons should kindly possess the following:

  • Medical Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, International Development, or any related field.
  • A Master’s Degree or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an added advantage.
  • At least 10 years experience in the implementation of public health programs relevant to those funded by the Global Fund – HIV, TB, Malaria, Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health
  • At least 5 years of progressive work experience in the program management capacity of large donor-funded programs, International NGOs, or international support agencies (direct experience managing grants from the Global Fund will be an added advantage).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Health Systems Strengthening (in line with the WHO building blocks).
  • Possess adequate knowledge of the Global Fund’s program implementation requirements and policies.
  • Experience in program management including managing teams, performance management, risk management, and capacity building.
  • Experience working with and maintaining good relations with donors, government institutions, counterparts, and beneficiaries.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to work independently while being a strong player in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other project management software.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of sub-grantees such as Sub Recipients, Technical Assistance Providers, etc.
  • Proven capacity to undertake data analysis and interpretation for public health service programs and successful resolution of implementation challenges.

Job Description

Purpose of Job

  • To facilitate the smooth functioning of administrative support services, including but not limited to administration – office management, general services, operations, records management, procurement etc – within the Finance and Administration Unit of AUSC and beyond, as required.

Main Functions

  • Provide timely operational support
  • Assist in activity planning
  • Prepare operational work schedules and follow up the implementation
  • Handle communication at the operational level and provide update
  • Assist in the compilation and maintenance of data and information for preparation, implementation and monitoring of budgets, activities etc.
  • Coordinate and/or engage in technical assistance and/or logistical work
  • Assist in the creation, improvement and maintenance of operational processes  and systems
  • Prepare office communication and draft reports.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support in accordance with the Terms of Reference of the Office;
  • Undertake all administrative matters relating to the organization of meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences planned under the AU Sports Council’s work plan, including securing and arranging meeting venues, arranging participants’ travel, and other administrative arrangements;
  • Organize all travel related to the work of the AUSC, including fact-finding missions, follow-up missions and similar activities which require travel arrangements;
  • Organize both incoming and outgoing correspondence, including the establishment of a physical and electronic log/registry system and filing; create, update and maintain special files (of confidential nature or for closer access for respective official’s use) through an organized filing system
  • Manage correspondence for priority action, notification of deadlines and acting on routine matters;
  • Arrange and maintain a calendar of appointments and prepare travel plans for missions; schedule appointments, meetings and travel arrangements that may include coordinating arrangements for multiple participants
  • Assist the Office in the timely preparation of relevant papers and documents for meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences, and in the finalization of related reports;
  • Undertake administrative action related to the procurement of equipment and services including preparation of purchase orders, contracts for consultants, related payment requests, and monitoring and follow-up on such requests;

Other Roles

  • Liaise with partner agencies on relevant administrative and financial matters, as well as with internal stakeholders including Administration, Finance, HR Units within AUSC and the respective directorates at AU HQ level, as required.
  • Assist the implementation and monitoring of budgets as need be. Liaise with the Accounts Assistant and the FAO on budgetary matters as required.
  • Provide communications support and assistance to ensure timely responses to inquiries, emails and correspondences, assist the team of Secretaries whenever required.
  • Draft and finalize correspondence, reports and documents and ensure the correctness of style and compliance with AU procedures and standards;
  • Perform such other tasks as required.

Requirements and Relevant Experience

Applicants should possess the following:

  • Diploma OR Bachelor’s Degree in Administration, Management, Office Management or related fields with three (3) and two (2) years of relevant work experience respectively.
  • Experience in international organizations will be high advantage.
  • Experience in drafting official communication; experience in preparing reports and summaries, and presenting information allowing easy analysis and understanding.
  • Experience in organizing events, and liaising with various support functions and stakeholders.
  • Experience or knowledge of tasks related to office management, secretarial tasks, records management, procurement and supply chain management.
  • Understanding of procurement processes is required
  • Understanding and experience of facilities management and correspondence handling is required.

  • Excellent drafting and data presentation skills
  • Capacity to work under pressure and according to precisely set timelines
  • Ability to coordinate activities, contribute to planning, and understand the linkage between activities and the office’s objectives
  • Excellent organization skills, very good time management skills

  • Understanding of AU working systems, specifically those in overall administration, human resources, finance, procurement, protocol, and conference management is an advantage.

  • Excellent knowledge and experience to use computer applications including but not limited to MS Word, MS-Excel, MS PowerPoint. Experience in using SAP will be an important advantage.

The Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship – Funded by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK. They offer Ph.D. scholars studying at eligible universities across the Commonwealth the opportunity to conduct research at an institute in the UK for 12 months.

Purpose: To widen access to UK equipment and expertise for high-quality doctoral candidates from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries, and to contribute to UK and Commonwealth higher education and research through collaboration and partnerships.

Intended beneficiaries: High-quality graduates whose proposed research has a developmental focus and who have the potential to become influential teachers or researchers in their home countries.

Requirements And Eligibility For the Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship

To apply for these Scholarships, prospective Scholars must:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
  • Be registered for a Ph.D. at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the time your Scholarship starts (September 2023)
  • Ensure that an institutional or departmental link exists between your home university and your proposed UK university. This link must be greater than simply a collaboration between individuals – see the section on ‘Tenure and placement’ for further details. Both supervisors must provide a supporting statement that provides further details of the link to ensure your application is eligible.
  • Be available to start your academic studies in the UK in September 2023
  • By September 2023, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honors standard, or a lower second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)
  • Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship

Financial assistance

Each Scholarship provides:

  • Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (the CSC will not reimburse the cost of fares for dependants, nor the cost of journeys made before your award is confirmed)
  • Approved tuition fees: full fees are covered by an agreement between the CSC and the UK university, and Scholars are not liable to pay for any part of the tuition fee
  • Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,236 per month, or £1,516 per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at current levels)
  • Warm clothing allowance, where applicable
  • Study travel grant towards the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas
  • If you are widowed, divorced, or a single parent, child allowance of £529 per month for the first child, and £131 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your children and they are living with you at the same address in the UK

The CSC’s family allowances are intended to be only a contribution towards the cost of maintaining your family in the UK. The true costs are likely to be considerably higher, and you must be able to supplement these allowances to support any family members who come to the UK with you.

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

  • Academic merit of the candidate
  • Quality of the plan of study
  • Potential impact on the development of the candidate’s home country

The closing date for applications, including all supporting documentation, is 2 March 2023 at 16:00 GMT.

Applications must be made using the CSC’s online application system.

Candidates must apply to study at a UK university that has a part funding agreement with the CSC. Part funding agreements are at the discretion of individual universities. The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has released the timetable for the 2023 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) First Series, commonly referred to as WAEC GCE.

According to the 2023 WAEC GCE Timetable, the examination has been scheduled to take off on Tuesday, 31st January 2023, and ends on Friday, 17th February 2023.

Notes

  • Difference in Time on Question Paper and Timetable
    Where the duration indicated on the question paper differs from that on the timetable, the one on the question paper should be followed.
  • Question Papers to be Given Out in Advance of the Dates They Are to be Taken
    • Visual Art 3
      Paper 3A – Instructions will be given to supervisors two weeks before the paper is due to be taken.
      Paper 3B – Question papers will be given to candidates two weeks before the paper is due to be taken.
    • General Knowledge-In-Art Paper 3
      The question paper for General Knowledge-In-Art 3 will be given to candidates two weeks before the paper is due to be taken.
    • Block Laying, Bricklaying and Concrete Works 3 (Practical)
      Question paper will be given to candidates three days before the paper is due to be taken.
    • Project Work Papers

  • Extra Time for Blind, Deaf and Dumb Candidates
    Blind, deaf and dumb candidates should be allowed one and half times the time allotted to other candidates.
