AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program 2023/2024 – Apply

AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program 2023/2024 – Apply Here. Applications for the AERC-World BAnk Visiting Scholars Program are now open. See how to apply below and the requirements.

African Economic Research Consortium (AERC)

The launch of AERC goes back to the late 1980s, when a small group of Africanists and African scholars began to recognize the disconnect between economic policy making and economic research in sub-Saharan Africa. Available research results, applied to other economies, did not always seem appropriate to the African context. And where such results were available, they were too often not put to use.

African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) and The World Bank, Africa Region Chief Economist’s Office (AFRCE), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a mutually beneficial collaborative partnership. The newly established AERC-World Bank visiting scholars programme is central to the collaboration between the two institutions.

The visiting scholars will be expected to be part of the AFRCE team; attend AFRCE-led activities; benefit from capacity-building efforts being organized by AFRCE, including collaboration with scholars and peers doing analytical work on World Bank Regional Flagship Studies; interact with the World Bank’s researchers; fully utilize the World Bank’s resources to: (i) revise their draft paper and submit it to the World Bank Working Paper Series and a ranking Journal; (ii) present at least one seminar on their own research while in the program; (iii) contribute meaningfully to the World Bank’s Africa Region ongoing research and analytical work; (iv) develop a repository of research interests; and (v) comply with all other terms and conditions included in their terms of reference and applicable consultancy contract

AERC invites its network researchers and faculty to submit an expression of interest to participate in the AERC-World Bank visiting scholars program. The fellowship programme will enable participants to spend time at the World Bank, work on their own research relevant to economic development in Africa, and to work with the World Bank’s researchers to develop, especially those in the Africa Region.

Check also – ACU Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships 2023

Benefits of AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program

The objectives of the collaboration are to (i) enhance AERC’s capacity to boost economic policy research in sub-Saharan Africa; (ii) help strengthen AERC’s global linkages in areas of economic policy, academic research, and graduate training; (iii) deepen and broaden the policy impact of both AERC and AFRCE and  (iv) to enhance the skills and output (especially publications and courses) of individual African researchers by providing access to wider and better information, network and economic research and data accessible via the World Bank.

The visiting scholars program provides an opportunity for AERC researchers to visit the World Bank for four months, with a total of three researchers visiting every year. Visiting scholars will be selected from among AERC network members based on set guidelines including the World Bank’s policies and procedures.

Requirements for AERC-World Bank Visiting Scholars Program

As the Regional Facilitation Unit (RFU) for the ACE II AF Project, the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) leads the implementation of key elements of Component 2 of the project. Component 2 aims at building strong and sustainable regional partnerships and collaborations to produce competent Masters and PhD holders for the regional market and improve the quality of teaching in higher education and quality of production and services in public and private sectors. To encourage the participation of young African female students at postgraduate level, IUCEA wishes to implement a two-year Fellowship Program to provide competitive Masters Scholarships to academically deserving future talents to promote regional female student mobility. Eligible female applicants who can demonstrate interest to undertake postgraduate training in agriculture and related sciences are encouraged to apply for the 60 Fellowships available for the 2023/2024 academic year.

ACU Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships 2023. Applications are now open for the ACU Routledge/Round Table commonwealth studentship program. check below for how to apply and the requirements.

Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)

The ACU is an international organization dedicated to building a better world through higher education. We believe that international collaboration is central to this ambition. By bringing universities together from around the world – and crucially the people who study and work within them. We help to advance knowledge, promote understanding, broaden minds, and improve lives.

The PhD studentships provide support for research projects on Commonwealth related themes. Two studentships are available each year, one for UK-registered students and one for Commonwealth students in other countries.

Proposed research must fulfill at least one of the below criteria:

  • Relate to the Commonwealth as a whole or to any Commonwealth-wide institution or organization
  • Have a strong Commonwealth comparative aspect
  • Be of relevance to a Commonwealth country other than the UK.

For example, a research project comparing LGBT rights in South Africa and Uganda would be eligible, as would a project on the reform of colonial-era anti-LGBT legislation in India, but a project on the role of Stonewall in advocating for LGBT rights in the UK would not.

Applications are welcomed from a broad range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences, but preference may be given to disciplines usually covered by the Round Table journal, including (but not exclusively) politics, international relations, economics, international history, geography, law, development studies, and area studies.

The studentships are funded by The Round Table: The Commonwealth Journal of International Affairs and the journal’s publisher, Routledge, in association with the ACU.

Benefits of Routledge/Round Table Commonwealth Studentships

  • £4,000 GB will be paid on the announcement of the awards. The remaining £1,500 GBP will be paid on completion of the post-studentship requirements.

The FIFA U20 World Cup has reached the quarterfinal stage, and one of the matches will feature Nigeria against South Korea.

The game will take place on Sunday at the Estadio Único Madre de Ciudades, and people expect it to be an interesting encounter.

Both teams have shown that they are serious contenders in the competition hosted by Argentina, and they are already aiming for the semifinals.

South Korea advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Ecuador 3-2 in the Round of 16.

The Taegeuk Warriors have fast and skillful players, along with a strong attacking force that allowed them to dominate their South American opponents. This is a level of quality that they did not demonstrate during the group stages.

They finished second in Group F after defeating France 2-1 and drawing against Gambia and Honduras.

On the other hand, Nigeria made it to the quarterfinals after shocking the host country Argentina with a 2-0 victory.

The team, known as the Flying Eagles, secured the win in that game with second-half goals from Ibrahim Muhammad and Haliru Sarki.

They were in Group D, where they finished third. The Eagles earned six points from two wins and one defeat.

They defeated the Dominican Republic 2-1 and Italy 2-0 but suffered a loss against Brazil.
