About Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF)

The Africa Research Excellence Fund aims to improve the quality and impact of health research in Africa by nurturing talented, emerging researchers to do the best health research in Africa, for Africa. We want to grow the community of African researchers who lead and partner excellent, collaborative health research that benefits patients, populations, policy makers and practitioners throughout the region and globally. You can be part of our vision and help us achieve it.

AREF Research Fellowship is designed to enable talented, early-career African researchers to develop their own research ideas and specialist skills, to grow their research relationships through collaboration and mentorship, and to work towards a major funding proposal. This year, funding will be made available for a “planned follow-through” in the awardee’s home institution.

The AREF Research Development Fellowship (RDF) Programme is being launched to support African researchers who are working on important challenges for human health in Africa. 

Benefits of AREF Research Development Fellowship

  • A three to nine-month placement at a leading research institution in Europe or Africa, with additional support at your home institution before and after the placement, up to a maximum of £40,000.

Requirements for AREF Research Development Fellowship

Research active post-doctoral scientists and clinicians who are nationals of and employed in Sub-Saharan Africa who were awarded their doctorate after May 2014; and clinicians without a doctorate but who have a research-relevant Master’s degree and at least two and up to seven years active research experience.

Selection Process

Selection Criteria:

  • Applicants will need to demonstrate a credible, ambitious vision for their research career in an area of human-health challenge for Africa; and a transformational, well-supported development plan that would be significantly enhanced by the RDF Programme. Potential applicants?are strongly encouraged to discuss their?plans at an early stage with their?employing and potential host organizations.
  • Equality and diversity are core values of AREF and we encourage applications by scientists irrespective of gender, colour, race, or creed.  We strongly welcome eligible applicants from francophone and lusophone countries as well as from anglophone countries.

The Lagos State Scholarship Board was founded in line with the state’s outlook as the centre of excellence. The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Scholarship Board wishes to inform indigenous students of Lagos State in tertiary institutions across the country and intending to be beneficiaries of either Bursary or Scholarship Award that application forms for both Awards for 2022/2023 academic year will be on sale from Thursday, 1st June; 2023 and closes by 12 midnight of Friday, 30th June; 2023.

BURSARY AWARD TO LAW SCHOOL STUDENTS

Furthermore, this administration increased Bursary to Law School students by approving the rate of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000. 00) only per bonafide indigene. This is to lighten their financial burden and it is paid once. A sum of Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000) only is also awarded to indigenes of the State studying in Maritime Academy.

This collaboration was announced with the goal of improving birth registration processes in 22 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Nigeria.

  • The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the National Population Commission (NPC) have sought the assistance of NYSC in order to register 12.7 million births in 2023. This initiative involves issuing birth certificates for children under the age of 5, which will include their names and nationality. The registration efforts will cover 21 states, encompassing 456 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 4,978 wards across the country.
  • The primary aim of this partnership is to provide the benefits of birth registration to at least 12 million children under the age of 5 in Nigeria. The terms of the collaboration are focused on achieving this objective.

BOI Youth Entrepreneurship Support Programme (YES-P) 2023 – The Youth Entrepreneurship Support (YES) Programme is BOI’s effort at addressing the worrisome phenomenon of youth unemployment in Nigeria by building the capacity of the youths and funding their business ideas. The YES programme is aimed at equipping young people with the requisite skills and knowledge to be self-employed by starting and managing their businesses.

BOI Youth Entrepreneurship Support Programme (YES-P) 2023

The programme comprises of the following components:

  • 8 weeks of extensive online Entrepreneurship and Business Management training which can test participants’ understanding and track their progress.
  • 5 days of in-class Entrepreneurship and Business Management training covering the following five (5) modules:
    • The business idea (value proposition and competition analysis)
    • Business model (how will the business make money)
    • Sales and marketing
    • Running a successful business (ethics, compliance, operations, etc.)
    • Financial planning
  • Financing of the businesses by BOI under its SME Cluster initiative.

Eligibility Criteria

The choice of projects to be eligible for the scheme includes the following:

  • Projects in any of the 40 identified SME product clusters.
  • Projects with unique and innovative products/ideas.
  • Value-adding projects that fall within the scope of Small Enterprises excluding trading activities.
  • Projects whose promoters have participated in the capacity building aspect of the YES-Programme.
  • Project ideas developed by the National Youth Service Corps members and recommended by the NYSC Directorate.

Loan Requirements for BOI Youth Entrepreneurship Support Programme (YES-P)

  • Debenture over the assets of the company or specific charge over the equipment (present and future).
  • Deposit of original NYSC certificate and higher educational certificate (Ordinary National Diploma, Higher National Diploma or University Degree) with BOI. This will be subject to the certificate being certified by Background Check International (BCI).
  • Acceptable alternatives to Degree/HND certificates: Final Statement of Results, Success Letter, Testimonial or other verifiable evidence of course completion.
  • Two (2) external guarantors acceptable to BOI who must belong to any of the following categories:
    •  Senior Civil Servant (Level 7 and above).
    • Bankers (not below the level of Banking Officer), and must have been confirmed by current employer.
    • Professionals i.e. Medical Doctors, Lawyers, Accountants, Engineers, etc.
    • Senior Staff of reputable quoted Companies, International Oil Companies, Telecommunications Companies (GSM providers) etc.
    • Elected public servants/administrators.
    • Reputable entrepreneurs with ongoing entities and registered business names.
    • Clergymen.

The guarantees must be supported by a Notarized Statement of Net worth acceptable to BOI.

Note: For established borrowers requesting an expansion, security requirement, Deposit of original NYSC certificate, higher educational certificate, or any alternative could be waived.

Loan Documentation Required

Customers are required to open an account with the Bank of Industry before application can commence. The documents needed for an account to be opened are listed below. A customer identification number will be created at the end of the account opening process.

An account can be opened by completing an account opening form and submitting all the required documents:

ACCOUNT OPENING REQUIREMENT LIST

  • Schedule of the shareholders signed by the company secretary. (Shareholders Register) for new customers and a confirmation of earlier submission for returning customers
  • Full Incorporation Documents:
    • Photocopy of Certificate of Incorporation
    • Certified true copy of Memorandum and Articles of Association
    • Forms CAC 2.5 (Allotment of Shares)
    • CAC 2.3 (Particulars of Directors)
    • CAC 2.1 (Appointment of Company Secretary)
  • Means of identification of all Directors of the company (i.e., photocopy of International Passport/Driver’s License and National Identity Card) and BVN of the Executive Directors. (**note that ID of all Directors are needed for compliance and credit search)

About African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI)

The African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI) is a mental health research capacity building programme launched in 2015 to build an Africa-led network of future leaders in mental, neurological and substance use (MNS) research in Africa. AMARI is implementing its second phase, AMARI-II 2023-2027 with funding support from the second phase of the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training, and Science in Africa (DELTAS Africa), a programme of the Science for Africa Foundation (SFA) being implemented with support from Wellcome and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

The African Mental Health Research Initiative (AMARI) is a mental health research capacity building programme. AMARI-II builds on the initial AMARI-I which ran from 2015 – 2022. AMARI-II is being implemented with funding support of the second phase of the Developing Excellence in Leadership, Training, and Science in Africa (DELTAS Africa), an initiative of the Science for Africa Foundation (SFA). This initiative is supported by the Wellcome Trust and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

The Alan J Flisher Centre for Public Mental Health (CPMH) invites applications from South African citizens or permanent residents for a 4-year full-time PhD fellowship.

Benefits of AMARI Scholarships for Doctoral Study (Public Mental Health)

AMARI-II is a consortium of six African universities whose overall goal is to build excellence in leadership, training, and science amongst African scholars in mental, neurological and substance use (MNS) research in Africa.

AMARI-II aims to shift the centre of gravity in global mental health (GMH) by ensuring that African scientists become leaders in GMH research, training and implementation.

Key focus will be on strengthening AMARI-II’s collective ability to introduce interventions that reduce the treatment gap for mental health conditions in Africa.

Benefits:

The value of the Scholarship is R300 000 per year. This is a taxfree stipend. Generous research running costs are available to carry out the intended research. Although the tenure of the scholarships is for 4 years, We will require evidence of satisfactory academic progress for continued registration.

The University of Aberdeen is a public research university in the city of Aberdeen, Scotland. It is an ancient university founded in 1495 when William Elphinstone, Bishop of Aberdeen, petitioned Pope Alexander VI on behalf of James IV, King of Scots to establish King’s College, making it Scotland’s third-oldest university and the fifth-oldest in the English-speaking world. The university as it is today was formed in 1860 by a merger between King’s College and Marischal College, a second university founded in 1593 as a Protestant alternative to the former.

University of Aberdeen Masters Scholarship for African Students

The University of Aberdeen, Scotland, is delighted to offer the Aberdeen Global Scholarship to international students starting in September 2023 or January 2024. This is a £5,000 tuition fee discount open to eligible self-funded taught Postgraduate Masters students who are classed as international fee status and domiciled in one of the countries listed below. The scholarship is not available to students studying PGDE degrees.

These scholarships are open to students registering for a full-time on-campus programme, who don’t receive an externally funded scholarship from elsewhere, or any other University of Aberdeen scholarships (excluding awards made by the University of Aberdeen Development Trust).

  • You must be a current student of the University of Aberdeen studying Law at either research (PhD/LLM by Research) or taught level (LLM) and propose to study abroad – Form 2
  • You must be a member of staff from non-UK higher education institution proposing to lecture at the University of Aberdeen – Form 3.
  • You must be a member of staff of the University of Aberdeen wishing to study foreign law or legal practice and who has exhausted the possibility of funding from (a) external bodies and (b) Departmental funds. – Form 4

Please note that online programmes are excluded from the remit of the Trust.

There are 4 (four) forms available. Applicants must submit the form corresponding to their eligibility.

The Civic Changemakers Fellowship programme is a civic innovation and governance training aimed at empowering community champions who are working or have the ambition to work on solving civic and governance challenges.

Every year, TransparencIT selects and invites active community champions to develop and scale solutions for disrupting civic participation and improving governance and social justice in their communities. For three (3) months, the Changemakers learn through engagement, training, group work and networking to advance their activities and projects.

The sole objective of the programme is to strengthen the civic space and make a difference in the lives of our communities by developing the combination of knowledge, skills, values, and motivation of the changemakers to foster and implement citizens-driven solutions.

The programme was designed to create a positive impact using the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The core components of the fellowship comprise parallel training in experiential learning, leadership development, inclusion, innovation and management framework.

  • Proficient in speaking, reading, writing and understanding the English language.
  • Women and people living with disability are encouraged to apply.
