Known for nurturing tycoons like Innoson CEO Innocent Chukwuma and Coscharis Motors CEO Cosmas Maduka, the Igbo Apprenticeship System has undergone a transformative revival under the One-Youth-Two Skills program. This modernized approach aims to equip today’s youth with not only practical skills but also entrepreneurial acumen and essential networking opportunities, paving the way for self-employment and business ownership.

Achievements of the Pilot Phase:

The program’s initial phase witnessed the successful training of 5,000 youths across diverse skills, accompanied by a substantial 2-billion-naira startup grant. Complementing these efforts, the Anambra State Small Business Agency (ASBA) has allocated working capital funds to facilitate the scaling up of these ventures.

With plans to expand its reach to 10,000 youths across 56 different skills, the One-Youth-Two Skills program emphasizes a holistic curriculum developed in collaboration with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Business School. This curriculum covers managerial, administrative, sales, marketing, and soft skills, nurturing well-rounded entrepreneurs.

Unique Approach to Mass Entrepreneurship:

Distinguishing itself from previous initiatives, the program’s uniqueness lies in training beneficiaries in at least two marketable skills. This strategic focus aims to drive mass entrepreneurship through apprenticeships, business training, financing options, and community-level mentoring.

Overcoming Business Challenges:

Acknowledging common pitfalls leading to business failure, Governor Soludo’s administration addresses challenges such as financing hurdles, poor planning, and market obstacles. The program offers grants, facilitates low-interest loans, and encourages cooperative setups to foster shared resources and collective ownership.

Facilitating Market Access and Mentorship:

Ensuring market access for program beneficiaries, strategic linkages between participants and business opportunities are established. A structured mentoring scheme further supports these budding entrepreneurs as they embark on their business journeys.
