February 10, 2025 by legitportal Leave a Comment

US Visa Dropbox in Nigeria. US Interview Waiver Portal Closure.

What is US Visa Dropbox?

The US visa dropbox is a program that allows certain visa applicants to submit their documentation at a designated Dropbox location instead of attending a face-to-face interview. The program is also known as the Interview Waiver Program.

US Visa Dropbox in Nigeria

As of February 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has discontinued the visa drop box service, also known as the Interview Waiver Program. This service previously allowed eligible applicants to renew their visas without attending an in-person interview. Now, all visa applicants are required to schedule and attend in-person interviews for both new applications and renewals.

It is important to note that the US Embassy in Nigeria has not yet issued an official statement on the change, however, applicants attempting to schedule visa renewals have reported that the drop box feature is no longer an option on the appointment booking platform.

Recommended: Australia Awards Scholarship 2025 | How to Apply

What You Must Know About US Visa Renewal

  • All U.S. visa applicants in Nigeria must now attend in-person interviews, regardless of prior visa status or renewal eligibility.
  • Applicants should visit the official U.S. Department of State’s visa appointment service website to schedule their interviews.
  • Ensure you have all necessary documentation, including a valid passport, completed DS-160 form, visa fee payment receipt, and any other supporting documents relevant to your visa category.

Due to the increased demand for in-person interviews, it’s advisable to schedule your appointment well in advance of your intended travel date. Stay updated by regularly checking the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria’s official website for any further announcements or changes to the visa application process.

Requirements for US Visa Dropbox in Nigeria

To qualify, applicants has to meet specific criteria, including:

  • Having a prior US visa that expired within the last 24 months.
  • The previous visa must have been issued in Nigeria as a full-validity, multiple-entry visa.
  • Applying for the same visa classification as the prior approved visa.
  • No record of overstaying, working without authorization, or having criminal convictions in the US.
