Scholarship Categories 

The two types of scholarships available on the program are:
Mobile Scholarships:

• Scholars are selected to complete their master’s program in higher education institutions located outside their country of residence.
• The scholarship will provide funding for tuition, subsistence, travel, research grant, insurance and visa.

Stationary Scholarships:

• Scholars are selected to complete their master’s program in higher education institutions located in their country of residence.
• The scholarship will take care of scholars’ tuition and research grant.
• A small stipend to contribute towards travel and subsistence will also be provided.
• Scholarships award will be on a limited number of best qualifying people, to meet budget restrictions.
• Applicants should consider factors such as language, proximity, family, and opportunities for internship in their decision-making when selecting their most preferred scholarship category.

Scholarship Requirements for Validation :

• The application form will request all applicants to state their local language and any other languages they can speak fluently and may be asked to communicate with it during the interview and validation of documents.
• Other information to be collected through the application form include the applicant’s biodata, geographical location, education, work experience and commitments.
• Applicants selected will be required to complete a validation process by providing relevant documents to support the information given in the form.
• The inability to validate this information within the specified period will result in disqualification and replacement by candidates who are on the waiting list.

The Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies, BIGSAS, invites outstanding African women scholars based on the continent to join an international community of early career researchers working in the field of African Studies. About the Scholarship

This scholarship program supports international students, PhD candidates, university instructors, researchers, and artists on their travels for study, research, teaching, and artistic endeavors.

For research stays at universities and other institutes of higher learning, scholars can travel to Slovakia.

International students, PhD scholars and researchers, Teachers, and Artists at universities and institutions outside Slovakia are eligible to apply for this scholarship program.

The program provides accepted students with travel reimbursements and grants to cover their living expenses while they are there.

Benefits of National Scholarship Program

Selected applicants for the National scholarship sponsored by slovak republic will be eligible for the following benefits :

1. University students will receive a scholarship amount worth €400 per month for the entire duration of their stay.

2. Selected PhD students will be eligible for a scholarship worth €734 per month.

3. University Teachers, researchers, and Artists will receive a scholarship amount worth between €734 and 1,050 € per month.

3. The scholarship shall also cover their living costs including accommodation and boarding expenses during their scholarship stay in Slovakia.

4. Selected Applicants can be awarded a travel allowance, if they apply for it along with their scholarship application.

5. This allowance is given as a lump sum and it will be paid to the scholarship holder at the end of his/her stay together with the last scholarship payment.

6. The travel allowance amount depends on the distance (in a direct line) between the applicant’s place of residence and the place of his/her stay in Slovakia:

a). Payment for a distance up to 350 km–€0,

b). A Payment for a distance over 350 km, max. 2,000 km–€250,

c). The Payment for a distance over 2,000 km, max. 7,000 km–€500,

d). Payment for a distance over 7,000 km–€1000.

Eligibility for National Scholarship Program

You must fulfill the following conditions in order to be eligible to apply for the National scholarship sponsored by slovak republic:

1. Candidates must be International students, PhD scholars and researchers, Teachers, and Artists at universities and institutions outside Slovakia.

2. Applicants must be accepted by a public, private or state university or a research institution in Slovakia eligible to carry out a doctoral study program for an academic mobility to study/conduct research in Slovakia.

3. You must be ready to spend the whole period of your mobility in Slovakia of up to 1-2 semesters or 1–10 months.

Candidate Eligibility (Qualification & Requirements)

To apply for these scholarships, candidates must:

• Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
• Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
• Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2023
• By September, 2023, hold a First Degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honours standard, or a second class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)*. The CSC would not normally fund a second UK Master’s degree. If you are applying for a second UK Master’s degree, you will need to provide justification as to why you wish to undertake this study
• Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship
• Have provided all supporting documentation in the required format

Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme 2023/2024 for Study at the University of Cambridge, UK (Fully Funded)- The Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; this is the largest ever single donation to a UK university. The first class of scholars came into residence in October 2001.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship Programme

Each year Gates Cambridge offers c.80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Approximately two-thirds of these awards will be offered to PhD students, with approximately 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round.

Eligibility Requirements:

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are:

• a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom
• applying to pursue one of the following courses at the University of Cambridge:
  • PhD (full-time or part-time*)
  • MLitt (full-time)
  • One year postgraduate course (full-time), with some exceptions – see below

* For October 2023 entry, Gates Cambridge is piloting a scheme which allows applicants to apply for funding for a part-time doctoral degree.

Funding:

A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge. It also provides additional, discretionary funding.

Core components

• the University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate*
• a maintenance allowance for a single student (£18,744 for 12 months at the 2022-23 rate; pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months) – for PhD scholars the award is for up to 4 years
• one economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course
• inbound visa costs & the cost of the Immigration Health Surcharge

* The University Composition Fee varies for different types of students; applicants should see the Graduate Studies prospectus for full details about precise amounts. Where a student has been successful in gaining a fees award from public authorities (such as the UKRI) they must accept this and the Trust will not pay these fees.

Discretionary components

The Trust also considers applications for several types of additional funding on a discretionary basis:

• Academic development funding – from up to £500 to up to £2,000, dependent on the length of your course, to attend conferences and courses.
• Family allowance – up to £10,944 for one child and up to £15,612 for two or more children (2022-23 rate). No funding is provided for a partner.
• Fieldwork – you may apply to keep up to your normal maintenance allowance while on fieldwork as part of your PhD (the Trust does not fund other fieldwork costs as these should be funded by the University Composition Fee).
• Maternity/Paternity funding – should you require it, you may apply to intermit your studies for up to 6 months and continue to receive your maintenance allowance during this time
• Hardship funding – for unforeseen difficulties facing the scholar
