The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), the Federal Government agency with the mandate of developing indigenous oil and gas industry, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the Overseas MSc and PhD scholarships to specific programs at selected institutions under its PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Description

  • The scheme was developed to offer candidates the opportunity to benefit from a diversified pool of knowledge and the facilities offered by world-class institutions across the globe. Under it, candidates are invited to apply through PTDF to specific programs at partner institutions.
  • The award includes the provision of flight tickets, payment of health insurance, payment of tuition and bench fees (where applicable), and the provision of allowances to meet the costs of accommodation and living expenses.

  • For the 2023/2024 award, applications will be limited to PTDF partner universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia where it feels the scholarship’s high standards can be maintained and the objectives of the scheme will be best served.

Selection Process, Criteria & Requirements

  • PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, and only candidates who are outstanding across the board are selected.
  • Based on the submitted qualifications, the top applicants for each category from each state will be invited for an interview where a selection committee will be constituted to assess applications using the following criteria:
    • Academic merit as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts and other professional qualifications acquired Relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only)
    • Membership in professional bodies
    • The viability of the study/research plan.

Requirements And Qualifications

Candidates with M.Sc. Degree:

  • A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
  • Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC) 3. Must be computer literate
  • Possession of 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
  • Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
  • Applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and will be required to have verified it (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.

Candidates with Ph.D Degree:

  • Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  • Must be computer literate
  • A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate
  • A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than five pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection
  • All lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellors confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships
  • Applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN) and will be required to have verified it (NIMC verification charges apply) before applying for the scholarship.

The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) is an African institute and a regional and global leader in research for development in insects and arthropods and their impacts, positive and negative, on food production and storage, human and animal health, environmental sustainability and livelihoods. ICIPE works across the continent with a network of partners, including universities, NGOs, and the private sector. It has a staff of 500 based at sites in Kenya, Ethiopia, and Uganda.

Requirements for ICIPE Ph.D. Scholarships

Applicants must possess the following:

  • A citizen of a country in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum pass of second-class, upper division.
  • Master’s degree, with above average results, taken with both coursework and research in the field of natural sciences or another field relevant to the Ph.D. project.
  • A Master’s degree must have been completed less than six years ago at the time of application.
  • Additional specific skills requirements may be required depending on the PhD project(s) selected by the candidate.

Selection Criteria: 

  • Tuition fee-paying students may be admitted in a separate selection group and the admission of these students are not limited by higher education funding from the Swedish government.
  • Applicants placed in the selection group for tuition fee-paying students must have their tuition fee status established by the University before registration. It is the responsibility of the applicant to provide documentation that establishes this status.
  • Tuition fee-paying applicants who are admitted, and have their established status changed to fee-exempt students will, as new applicants, be placed in the fee-exempt selection group.

  • Apply for one of our Master’s programs at University Admissions. Please pay the application fee to University Admissions.
  • Only applicants who are qualified for our Master’s programs and are eligible for Halmstad University scholarships will receive an email with a link to the online application form on March 8.
  • Fill in the online scholarship application form. The deadline is March 15. Please note that you will need to provide us with the application number you will receive from University Admissions.
  • The committee will award scholarships based on students’ academic merits (GPA but also ranking of the previous university and proficiency in English).
  • Applicants with a Halmstad University program as their first choice will have priority in the nomination.
  • Halmstad University will notify the recipients of scholarships by email at beginning of April.

If you haven’t received a scholarship offer, you have unfortunately not been offered a scholarship. Applicants who are not offered a scholarship will not be notified individually.

MINDS offers scholarships to Africans who wish to pursue post-graduate studies within Africa, outside of their own countries. Through tailored leadership development activities, the MINDS Scholarship Program aims to nurture leaders with a continental development mindset; leaders who will facilitate greater cohesion and cooperation between African countries.

MINDS is currently receiving applications from students who commence their studies in 2023/2024. Interested individuals are invited to submit applications as soon as they receive official acceptance from a MINDS-preferred university where they wish to study.

Requirements for MINDS Scholarship Program Qualification

MINDS scholarships are awarded to meritorious applicants following a rigorous selection process.  To be considered for a MINDS scholarship, you must:

  • Be a national of an African country, residing in any African country;
  • Have been formally accepted by one or more MINDS preferred institution/s to pursue postgraduate studies within the following year;
  • Have obtained at least 70% in each subject/ course in the last two completed years of study;
  • Produce evidence of demonstrated leadership abilities or potential guided by the questions/ requirements set out in the application form;
  • Submit a complete online application form (see below) with the required supporting documentation.

Documents Required for Application

Please have the following documents scanned, saved, and ready for uploading. All documents uploaded must be in PDF format. Each attachment should not exceed 2MB  in size.

  • A copy of the data/ bio page of your passport.
  • A certified academic transcript/ results slip of the last two years of study.
  • A copy of the official acceptance letter from the university. The letter must:
  • Be addressed to the applicant.
  • State the degree to which the applicant has been accepted to study.
  • State the academic year at which the degree will commence.
  • State the duration of the course (e.g. one year).
  • A copy of a valid study permit or visa OR proof of application.
  • A detailed CV/ Resume of not more than four (4) single-sided pages.
  • Two reference letters (of not more than 3 pages each) addressing the applicant’s demonstration of integrity, their competency and/or potential as a leader, and their commitment to the development of the African continent.

The Voyager Scholarship was created by the Obamas and Brian Chesky, Airbnb Co-founder and CEO, to help shape such leaders. Benefits of the Obama/Chesky Voyager Scholarship

The Voyager Scholarship for Public Service includes:

  • Up to $50,000 in financial aid: Students will receive up to $25,000 per year in “last dollar” financial aid for their junior and senior years of college.
  • Summer Voyage: Students will receive a $10,000 stipend and Airbnb credit to pursue a summer work-travel experience between their junior and senior year of college.
  • Fall Summit: Each fall, students will be invited to a summit to help define and inspire their public service journey.
  • Network of leaders: Throughout the program, students will be invited to an ongoing speaker series, giving them access to a network of leaders. This network of leaders will expose them to new areas of service and innovations happening in their fields. After graduation, they will join the Obama Foundation’s global community, providing them with Foundation resources and programming.
  • 10-year travel stipend: After graduation, Airbnb will provide the students with a $2,000 Airbnb travel credit every year for 10 years, totaling $20,000. This will allow students to continue to broaden their horizons and forge new connections throughout their public service careers.

Requirements for Obama/Chesky Voyager Scholarship

Applicants to the Voyager Scholarship must:

  • Plan to enroll full-time in their junior year of study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States (including U.S. Territories) in Fall 2023. Eligible students are finishing their sophomore year in Spring 2023 and will be considered juniors based on total number of credits earned at their institution by Fall 2023. (Students transferring from a two-year to a four-year college as juniors for the 2023-2024 academic year are eligible.)
  • Have four (4) semesters or six (6) quarters of full-time academic coursework remaining before graduating.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent.
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to public service.
  • Plan to pursue a career in public service upon graduation.
  • Be a United States (U.S.) citizen, U.S. permanent resident (holder of a Permanent Resident Card). Or an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Programme (DACA).

Documents Required for Application

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades and credit hours for each course
    • Term in which each course was taken
  • A copy of pages one and two of the most recently filed 1040 form used to complete the financial section of the application.

The Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC) supports countries in Africa, Asia, South Eastern and Eastern Europe as well as the Caribbean in their sustainable development. The Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs (MFA) plans ADC strategies. The Austrian Development Cooperation aims at reducing poverty, conserving natural resources and promoting peace and human security in partner countries. Long-term programs and projects support help towards self-help. The ultimate goal is to bring about a sustainable improvement in the conditions of life.

Another application round is open for the Austrian Development Cooperation Scholarships 2023/2024. Every year students from developing countries wishing to study in Austria are given a funding opportunity by the Austrian Development Cooperation to cover fees and living expenses.

How to Apply

Please be aware that being offered a scholarship is not automatic and very competitive. Follow the steps below to apply;

  • Get information about ITH from an Austrian consulate or embassy
  • Download the ITH application form. Austrian embassies and consulates have this form as well.
  • Application Process – all applications should be sent directly to the Institute via post.
    This means the Institute has to receive the application latest by March 22.
  • Confirmation – You would receive information about the result of your application by the end of April. If you were awarded a scholarship you will receive a letter of acceptance.

Tips for a successful scholarship application:

  • Fill out the application form properly and legibly.
  • Make sure you supply all the required information and attach the entire required document.
  • Send translated English or German documents if required.
  • Include a working e-mail address, phone and fax number as your application might be abandoned if your e-mail address, phone and fax number are not good.
  • Apply early. Late applications will not be processed.
  • Provide all admission requirements (read the ITH application form, and visa process carefully).
  • Clarify any doubts with the ITH office and Austrian embassy/consulate (In written form: e-mail or regular mail).

The Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship – Funded by the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Commonwealth Split-site Scholarships enable talented and motivated individuals to gain the knowledge and skills required for sustainable development, and are aimed at those who could not otherwise afford to study in the UK. They offer Ph.D. scholars studying at eligible universities across the Commonwealth the opportunity to conduct research at an institute in the UK for 12 months.

Purpose: To widen access to UK equipment and expertise for high-quality doctoral candidates from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries, and to contribute to UK and Commonwealth higher education and research through collaboration and partnerships.

Intended beneficiaries: High-quality graduates whose proposed research has a developmental focus and who have the potential to become influential teachers or researchers in their home countries.

RECOMMENDED – NNPC/SPDC Joint Venture University Scholarship 2023 – Apply

Requirements And Eligibility For the Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship

To apply for these Scholarships, prospective Scholars must:

  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible Commonwealth country, or be a British Protected Person
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
  • Be registered for a Ph.D. at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the time your Scholarship starts (September 2023)
  • Ensure that an institutional or departmental link exists between your home university and your proposed UK university. This link must be greater than simply a collaboration between individuals – see the section on ‘Tenure and placement’ for further details. Both supervisors must provide a supporting statement that provides further details of the link to ensure your application is eligible.
  • Be available to start your academic studies in the UK in September 2023
  • By September 2023, hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) honors standard, or a lower second class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)
  • Be unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship

Financial assistance

Each Scholarship provides:

  • Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (the CSC will not reimburse the cost of fares for dependants, nor the cost of journeys made before your award is confirmed)
  • Approved tuition fees: full fees are covered by an agreement between the CSC and the UK university, and Scholars are not liable to pay for any part of the tuition fee
  • Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,236 per month, or £1,516 per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at current levels)
  • Warm clothing allowance, where applicable
  • Study travel grant towards the cost of study-related travel within the UK or overseas
  • If you are widowed, divorced, or a single parent, child allowance of £529 per month for the first child, and £131 per month for the second and third child under the age of 16, if you are accompanied by your children and they are living with you at the same address in the UK

The CSC’s family allowances are intended to be only a contribution towards the cost of maintaining your family in the UK. The true costs are likely to be considerably higher, and you must be able to supplement these allowances to support any family members who come to the UK with you.

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria:

  • Academic merit of the candidate
  • Quality of the plan of study
  • Potential impact on the development of the candidate’s home country

The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (Operator of the NNPC/SPDC /TEPNG/AGIP Joint Venture) in pursuance of its Social Investment program in Education, which aims to promote academic excellence and enhance the employability of young Nigerians, invites applications from suitably qualified Nigerian Students admitted into Full Time academic studies in the 2020/2021session, to apply for its University Scholarship Scheme.

This merit-based scholarship is in two categories – the National Merit Award (NM) and the Areas of Operation Merit Award.

  • National Merit Award (NM) – Open to all Nigerians
  • Areas of Operation Merit Award – Open to Nigerians who are indigenes of SPDC’s operational areas in Bayelsa, Delta, Imo, and Rivers States

  • Must not be a beneficiary of any other scholarship from an entity operating in the Oil and Gas Industry, National or International.

Process for NNPC/SPDC Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for the proctored computer-based test
  • Shell does not demand payment from applicants. The application is entirely FREE of charge
  • Shell DOES NOT ASSIGN ‘Representatives’/ ‘Agents’ to assist applicants process applications
  • Applications open on the 3rd of January and close 3rd of February 2023
