Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was launched in 2013 by the Hungarian Government with the aim of providing opportunities for international students to pursue their higher education studies in Hungary. The programme’s core mission is to increase the number of international students in Hungary and encourage Hungarian higher education institutions to attract top international students.

Available Scholarship Type

Stipendium Hungaricum scholarships are available for bachelor’s, master’s, one-tier master’s, doctoral, non-degree programmes (preparatory courses) and postgraduate specialist training courses.

Provisions Covered by the Scholarship

Tuition-free education

• exemption from the payment of tuition fee

Monthly stipend

• non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s and one-tier master’s level: monthly amount of HUF 43,700 (cca EUR2 110) contribution to the living expenses in Hungary for 12 months a year until the completion of studies

Accommodation contribution

• free dormitory place (depending on institutional capacity) or a contribution of HUF 40,000/month (cca EUR 100) to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period (Please note that if the student does not live in the dormitory, the HUF 40,000/month is a contribution to the rental costs, and in bigger cities – especially in the capital city – this contribution would not cover the full amount of rental costs.)

Medical insurance

• health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act CXXII of 2019 on Entitlements to Social Security Benefits and Funding These Services) and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65,000 (cca EUR 160) a year/person.

Qualifications and Requirements

Each scholarship has its own eligibility requirements. However, the general criteria for most WUR scholarships include:

• You must demonstrate a high level of academic achievement, usually a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Entry-level Requirements for Erasmus Mundus Scholarship

Upon successful completion of the application form, a registration number will be automatically assigned. Applicants are advised to print a hard hard copy of the online-generated acknowledgment for future reference

All shortlisted applicants will be announced and posted on the NDDC website: www.nddc.gov.ng. These shortlisted candidates will subsequently be required to take part in a Computer-Based Test (CBT)

NOTE: The Commission (NDDC) will not enter into any form of Communication with candidates who are not shortlisted for the Computer Based Test (CBT), those who are not invited for oral interview or candidates that are not successful during the oral interviews.

Preference will be given to candidates from Oil Producing Host/Communities/Local Government Areas as long as candidates meet the approved cut off mark.

The Commission will ensure a fair spread of courses amongst beneficiaries within each State.

Deferment, Change of institution and Course are not permitted.
