The US visa dropbox is a program that allows certain visa applicants to submit their documentation at a designated Dropbox location instead of attending a face-to-face interview. The program is also known as the Interview Waiver Program.

As of February 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has discontinued the visa drop box service, also known as the Interview Waiver Program. This service previously allowed eligible applicants to renew their visas without attending an in-person interview. Now, all visa applicants are required to schedule and attend in-person interviews for both new applications and renewals.

It is important to note that the US Embassy in Nigeria has not yet issued an official statement on the change, however, applicants attempting to schedule visa renewals have reported that the drop box feature is no longer an option on the appointment booking platform.

All U.S. visa applicants in Nigeria must now attend in-person interviews, regardless of prior visa status or renewal eligibility.
Applicants should visit the official U.S. Department of State’s visa appointment service website to schedule their interviews.

To qualify, applicants has to meet specific criteria, including:

Having a prior US visa that expired within the last 24 months.
The previous visa must have been issued in Nigeria as a full-validity, multiple-entry visa.
Applying for the same visa classification as the prior approved visa.
No record of overstaying, working without authorization, or having criminal convictions in the US.
