How to become a certified Nurse in Nigeria
To become a nurse in Nigeria, there are two major options available to you, in order to achieve your dream.
First Option to become a certified Nurse in Nigeria
- Apply to become a nurse using JAMB. Buy JAMB form fill it with your desired course of study (in this case nursing), write the exams, ensure you use the right subject combination (English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry).
- Wait for JAMB result, ensure you score up to the approved cut-off mark for Nursing (click here to see the approved cut-off mark for Nursing in all schools in Nigeria).
- Get POST UTME form for the school, write the exam/screening.
- If you are admitted successfully, you can now undertake the professional course in Nursing. It is a 5 years course.
Second Option to become a certified Nurse in Nigeria
This second method is more straight forward than the first option. You do not need to take JAMB to gain admission using this method.
- Successfully complete your secondary school
- Pass your O’level (WAEC/NECO) well in not more than 2 sittings. The required subjects are Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and other health related subjects.
- Apply for school of nursing program.
- Get admission.
This type of nursing program is usually for duration of 3 years, after graduating, you will be able to work as a qualified nurse in any place you desire.
